2022 NFL Draft: Day 3 picks who will make immediate impact
Diamonds in the rough are found on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. While anyone can hit on a first round selection, the front offices that make the most of their late round picks are the ones who end up becoming invaluable to their franchises.
After the 2022 NFL Draft, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports attempted to seek out those Day 3 gems. There’s plenty of solid contenders, but here’s the six Trapasso believes can make an instant impact at the next level.
Day 3 picks who will make an immediate impact from the 2022 NFL Draft:
Perrion Winfrey, DT, Cleveland Browns (No. 108 overall)
Leading up to the 2022 NFL Draft, Winfrey continually rose up big boards. The Browns secured him, and Trapasso believes he fits in wonderfully next to star pass rusher Myles Garrett in Cleveland.
“With the lightning-quick first step and immense length of Winfrey, teams will eventually have to focus attention on the inside when facing Cleveland’s defense,” wrote Trapasso. “Initially though, Winfrey should see plenty of advantageous one-on-one scenarios, which will catalyze a fast start to his career.”
Isaiah Spiller, RB, Los Angeles Chargers (No. 123 overall)
One of the easiest positions to transition from college to the next level is running back. While the Chargers have Austin Ekeler as their lead back, the CBS Sports writer still thinks Spiller will find plenty of burn in Los Angeles, writing, “He’ll formulate a fun, dynamic duo with Ekeler in 2022.”
Charlie Kolar, TE, Baltimore Ravens (No. 128 overall)
When the Ravens are at their best, they’re utilizing Lamar Jackson‘s running ability, and their tight end room. Adding Kolar was a sneaky-good move, as Trapasso sees a lot of Mark Andrews in the former Iowa State tight end.
“Kolar is Mark Andrews 2.0. I’m telling you,” wrote Kolar. “Maybe not quite as dynamic after the catch, but it’s close. Everything else about Kolar’s game screams Andrews.

Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers (No. 132 overall)
The Packers drafted wide receiver Christian Watson out of North Dakota State on Day 2, but they also added Doubs to their wide receiving corps on Day 3. According to Trapasso, Matt LaFleur will have some fun scheming the former Nevada pass catcher as a vertical threat for Aaron Rodgers.
Snoop Conner, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 154 overall)
Doug Pederson deployed a running back by committee strategy over his time in Philadelphia, and expect his time in Jacksonville to be no different. While there’s a crowded running back room, Trapasso expects Conner‘s bruising running-style to get him on the field.
Tyreke Smith, EDGE, Seattle Seahawks (No. 158 overall)
Shocked — that’s what Trapasso was as Smith fell to the fifth round. While it may have had the former Ohio State star waiting longer than anticipated, the CBS Sports writer believes he’ll be an instant contributor.
“With Smith, advanced pass-rush moves are there. There’s some bend to his game,” wrote Trapasso. “He’s a pass-rush specialist. Seattle desperately needs that.”
