2022 NFL Draft: NFL Network grades Green Bay Packers Day 2 selections

The first three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft are finished, and the final four rounds are set to take place beginning at 12 noon ET on Saturday. Through two days, the Green Bay Packers have made three selections. When handing out a grade for the Packers’ Day 2 haul, the NFL Network crew was high on Green Bay’s picks.

Green Bay began the NFL Draft by selecting Georgia linebacker Quay Walker with the No. 22 overall pick. The Packers then brought in a college teammate of Walker, taking Bulldogs defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt with the No. 28 overall pick. NFL Network gave the Packers a grade of an A for their Day 1 haul, and Day 2 saw similar high regards.

The Packers moved up early on in Round 2, trading the No. 53 and 59 overall picks to the Minnesota Vikings to select North Dakota State wide receiver Christian Watson. Green Bay then took UCLA offensive tackle Sean Rhyan with the No. 92 overall pick.

Those two selections were praised by NFL Network, with the Packers receiving a grade of an A- for their Day 2 haul in the NFL Draft.

Watson is a player that drew some first-round projections prior to draft weekend, but he ultimately went early in the second. By grabbing the talented and speedy wideout in Watson, the Packers gave Aaron Rodgers a dangerous weapon down the field. Rhyan also has versatility on the offensive line, and he should fit in nicely as a depth piece on a Green Bay front that has dealt with injuries over recent years.

“The Packers packaged the 53rd and 59th overall picks to climb up for Watson, a tall and agile receiver who offers the downfield speed they recently lost when Marques Valdes-Scantling left in free agency,” NFL Network wrote. “Dealing a mid-second-round pick to move up 19 spots was a steep price to pay, but that’s what the market demanded given the heavy focus on receivers. As the first of seven wideouts selected in the second round, the North Dakota State product will be compared with guys like Skyy Moore and George Pickens for years to come.

“Rhyan played tackle in college but could slide inside because of his powerful base and mobility. He’s a perfect value in the third round.”
