Kickoff in college football is over three months away now as the the sport comes out of the spring. That means all new storylines and projections coming in for next season, including updated lines for the potential winner of the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

Vegas released new odds for the college football season this fall with favorites for the Heisman being among them. On that list, 14 players sit with odds at (+3000) or better while 34 sit at (+8000) or better at this point of the calendar. It also remains a quarterback-heavy list with the position having 27 players total along with the first 24 total as far as favorites.

Here’s how Vegas expects the race for the sport’s most prestigious award to go with one of these players possibly being the next member to join The Heisman House.

Georgia QB Carson Beck (+900)

After waiting his turn in Athens behind other quarterbacks, Beck is coming off of his first season as a starter for the ‘Dawgs. Those 14 games went as well as many could have hoped with him now being one of the top returning quarterbacks in college football.

Beck threw for nearly 4,000 yards along with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions on 72.4% completion. Now, with that being his baseline as he enters his fifth year on one of the best teams in the nation, it’s easy to see a scenario where he could be at the ceremony in New York, if not win the Heisman himself.

Texas QB Quinn Ewers (+900)

Ewers finally lived up to the high expectations of him with what he did down on The 40 Acres last fall. In his second season with Longhorns, Ewers threw for almost 3,500 yards with 22 touchdowns and six picks on a 69% completion rate

That productions helped Texas to come back to prominence with their best finish in years at 12-2 overall, their first Big 12 title since 2009, and their first appearance in the playoff. With the program now headed into the SEC, Ewers’ junior year could be just as notable, if not better, and could lead to even more success for himself and the burnt orange.

Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (+1000)

(Chris Pietsch | The Register Guard | USA TODAY NETWORK)

Gabriel is entering the sixth season of his career at his third school. That kind of experience, especially for transfers at a new program, has been a nice mix for players, including Heisman contenders, as of late, which is why his fit in Eugene could be another great one to meet that criteria.

With him throwing for a career-high of 3,660 yards along with 30 touchdowns last year, not to mention a dozen more scores on the ground, Gabriel is among the best all-time in yardage and touchdowns in college football. He’ll now, after transferring as the No. 6 QB per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players, take the spot of Bo Nix and look to keep the Ducks in contention as they move into the Big Ten.

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe (+1400)

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe
(Gary Cosby Jr. | Tuscaloosa News | USA TODAY NETWORK)

Milroe’s second season as a starter at Alabama will be much different than his first. That’s obviously due to the retirement of Nick Saban and the introduction of Kalen DeBoer, as well as his offensive system, as the Crimson Tide’s new head coach.

Milroe is likely to have the numbers regardless considering his dual-threat skills led him to post 3,365 overall yards and 35 total touchdowns. It’s just a question of how it’ll look or fit into a new style and if the same success continues to come through Tuscaloosa in this new era.

Ohio State QB Will Howard (+1500)

Ohio State QB Will Howard
(Barbara J. Perenic | Columbus Dispatch | USA TODAY NETWORK)

Howard is one of five Buckeyes on this list for The Heisman Trophy, including one of three of their quarterbacks, with him being the favorite amongst that group by far. Still, that should say a ton about the talent in Columbus as well as in their position room.

Assuming that Howard, the No. 4 QB transfer, is the starter like he’s expected to be, he also fits the quality veteran mold after throwing for 5,786 passing yards and 48 touchdowns in 34 appearances, including 27 starts, over four years at K-State. That case would be only better with him as the face of a team and offense at Ohio State that should be among the best in the country next season.

Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart (+1800)

Dart just missed out on the top-five with the Rebels’ quarterback sitting at (+1800). However, depending on how it all goes in Oxford this year, he could be very well in the mix with what he himself has done over two years as Ole Miss’ starter.

While he entered the fall in quarterback battle, he left it with a career season after throwing for 3,364 yards, scoring 31 touchdowns, and posting just five picks. As a senior, he’ll now be leading a team that, after their offseason efforts, specifically in the portal, could be a fascinating to follow over in The ‘Sip.

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (+2000)

Quarterbacks for LSU have been two of the last five winners of The Heisman Trophy with both leading the nation’s best offenses in their respective years. That’s a lot of expectations – but could also be something that bodes well – for Nussmeier as he takes the role in Baton Rouge.

Nussmeier, who’ll be going into his fourth year with the Tigers, is coming off the lone start of his career in a Reliaquest Bowl win over Wisconsin. That effort of 395 yards and three scorers against the Badgers was enough to be the Most Valuable Player in the game and enter this season as the next anticipated starter for the team after Jayden Daniels won the award a season ago.

Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava (+2000)

(Brianna Paciorka | News Sentinel | USA TODAY NETWORK)

Hype for Iamaleava is high up on Rocky Top, especially after his own first, successful outing as a starter. He had appeared in five games but really got that energy around him going after posting 178 yards and four touchdowns in Tennessee’s win in the Citrus Bowl against Iowa.

There was already a lot of excitement with Iamaleava, a former top quarterback prospect, coming to Knoxville. That could only intensify if he were to, as a redshirt freshman, do anything to be in contention for The Heisman Trophy, let alone bring it back to Knoxville.

Miami QB Cam Ward (+2500)

Washington State QB Cameron Ward
(James Snook | USA TODAY Sports)

Ward has put up massive statistics in his college career, specifically at Washington State. He has thrown for over 13,800 yards and 119 touchdowns with Incarnate Word as well as Wazzu the last four years.

After considering the NFL Draft, Ward, the No. 2 QB transfer, decided to commit to Miami. That should give the Hurricanes quite the talent to lead them on offense considering what he has produced already and could post more of in Coral Gables.

Kansas State QB Avery Johnson (+3000)

Kansas State QB Avery Johnson
(Scott Sewell | USA TODAY Sports)

With Howard off to Columbus, K-State is now getting a new starter in Johnson, who was a true freshman last season. Johnson appeared in eight games for the Wildcats last season, including two starts.

Johnson scored a dozen touchdowns last year, including three along with 249 yards as the MVP of the Pop-Tarts Bowl. That uniqueness, along with his status as an in-state, top quarterback recruit coming out of Maize, is why interest around him is so high going into his sophomore season in Manhattan.

Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold (+3000)

(Bryan Terry | THE OKLAHOMAN | USA TODAY NETWORK)

Arnold is, like Johnson, another quarterback that is going to get his chance after another player on this list transferred elsewhere. Gabriel going to Oregon leaves the starting spot available to Arnold as the Sooners go into the SEC.

Arnold, another young, top prospect from last year’s freshman class, showed flashes in his six appearances in Norman, including his one start in the Alamo Bowl that came with both highs and lows. Still, there’s still lots of interest in him as a sophomore that’ll be the QB1 for OU in 2024.

Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard (+3000)

(GREG SWIERCZ | USA TODAY NETWORK)

Leonard’s third season at Duke last year didn’t end so well after injuries limited the end of his time in Durham. Now, after leaving in the portal as the No. 5 QB, he’ll be the second-straight transfer quarterback for the Fighting Irish.

If Leonard is healthy, he can do it all with over 5,100 total yards and 40 touchdowns over the last two seasons with the Blue Devils. That skillset is now available to Marcus Freeman and OC Mike Denbrock with him as the next leader of their new offense.

Florida State QB DJ Uiagalelei (+3000)

Florida State QB DJ Uiagalelei
(Melina Myers | USA TODAY Sports)

Uiagalelei, the No. 10 QB transfer, is the last of the experienced, portal quarterbacks that’s this high on the list after spending parts of his career at Oregon State and Clemson. He now returns to the ACC to become the starter for the Seminoles.

Mike Norvell made it happen with Jordan Travis the last few years, especially the last two. However, Uiagalelei, who arrives with far more pedigree along with nearly 9,500 yards and 78 touchdowns in his career, could be even better if he were to also find his way into the conversation for the Heisman.

Arizona QB Noah Fifita (+3000)

Arizona QB Noah Fifita
(Gary A. Vasquez | USA TODAY Sports)

Fifita was a great story out in Tucson last season in his first year of true opportunity with the Wildcats. He’s now an even better one after electing to stay at Arizona amidst the coaching change from Jedd Fisch to Brent Brennan.

As one of the top freshman as a redshirt last year, Fifita threw for 2,869 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 72.4% completion. He’ll now look to develop even further as he goes into year three with the program while the program goes into their first season in the Big 12.
