When talking about the 2024 NFL Draft, the conversation starts with the quarterbacks. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projected three to go atop the draft in his Mock Draft 2.0, although it’s shaping up to be a fairly deep class at the position.

While the top three didn’t run the 40-yard dash on Saturday at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, others did as they looked to improve their stock. Former BYU quarterback Kedon Slovis led the small group of quarterbacks, logging a 4.56-second run on his second attempt.

Here are the fastest quarterbacks to run the 40-yard dash. All times are unofficial.

After starting his career at USC and Pitt, Kedon Slovis took his talents to BYU as the Cougars moved to the Big 12 this past season. He only appeared in eight games, throwing for 1,716 yards and 12 touchdowns in that time before getting an invitation to the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

Slovis ran a 4.56 40-yard dash at Lucas Oil Stadium as he looks to make an impression on NFL teams. All told, in his five-year college career for three teams, he threw for 11,689 yards and 80 touchdowns – headlined by a standout freshman season with 3,502 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2019.

Sam Hartman, Notre Dame – 4.80 seconds

Sam Hartman was the first quarterback to run the 40-yard dash, along with the first group of wide receivers. He clocked in at 4.80 seconds on his first attempt, which ranked in the middle of the pack for the quarterbacks at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.

Hartman became the ACC’s all-time leader in touchdown passes at Wake Forest, but he had an up-and-down season at Notre Dame as he threw for 2,689 yards and 24 touchdowns. He could find himself as a late-round pick in April’s draft.

Austin Reed, Western Kentucky – 4.83 seconds

Austin Reed spent two years at Western Kentucky after Bailey Zappe took his talents to the New England Patriots. He put up huge numbers in his first season with the Toppers, and while his 2023 numbers dipped a bit, he still showcased his arm in the Air Raid system.

Reed’s best year at WKU came in 2022 when he had an FBS-leading 4,746 passing yards and 40 touchdowns. He clocked in at 4.83 in the 40-yard dash on Saturday to rank third among the quarterbacks in the event.

Spencer Rattler, South Carolina – 4.96 seconds

Another intriguing draft prospect, Spencer Rattler clocked in with a 4.96 in the 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. The former South Carolina star had an opportunity to impress in Indianapolis, and the run was another step toward hearing his name called in the draft.

Rattler started his career at Oklahoma, where he threw for 6,212 yards and 37 touchdowns – including a 3,000-yard, 28-touchdown season in 2020. He then transferred to South Carolina ahead of the 2022 season and had a solid year, throwing for 3,026 yards and 18 touchdowns upon his arrival, and then added 3,186 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2023.

The 2024 NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Michigan, with the first round on Thursday, April 25. Then, the second and third rounds will be April 26, and the fourth through seventh rounds April 27. Before that, the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine runs through March 4 in Indianapolis.
