2024 Paris Olympics: NBC reveals over 30 million viewers watched primary Saturday coverage
The Olympics are back in a big way in 2024.
Per the ratings from NBC, the 2024 Paris Olympics combined for a total viewership of 32.4 million people during the primetime coverage on the opening day of the games on Saturday. For reference, that’d be up an incredible 83% from what the same slot did back in 2021 during the summer games in Tokyo.
This comes after a high profile finish for the Opening Ceremony on Friday. The start of the proceedings from France along with the introduction of the countries and their respective athletes drew 28.6 million viewers. That was again 60% better than the opening of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and was the most-viewed start since the games in London back in 2012.
These numbers come per Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.
It has been a busy first weekend in the Olympics with several events well underway in The City of Light. That includes several medals already being awarded with the United States leading with a dozen along with France, Japan, Austrailia, China, Italy, and South Korea having six or more total.
The year-long postponement of the last games from Japan likely had much to do with their lesser viewership. However, it looks as though Paris could post some great numbers across the globe based on these early returns from these Olympics.
