CBS Sports 2025 NFL Draft Mock New No. 1

With the 2024 NFL season officially in the books following the conclusion of Super Bowl LIX nearly two weeks ago, fans everywhere are already looking ahead to what the 2025 season will bring.

That starts with what is sure to be a transformative offseason that begins with next week’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis, followed by free agency in March, and the 2025 NFL Draft in late April. Suffice it to say, there will be some big changes over the next few months.

In its latest mock draft, CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso predicts two massive trades could completely reshape the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, beginning with the Las Vegas Raiders trading for the Tennessee Titans’ No. 1 overall pick to secure their preferred franchise quarterback. Trapasso also expects the Cleveland Browns will deal All-Pro pass rusher Myles Garrett.

Trapasso proposes the Raiders receive the Titans’ No. 1 overall pick and its 2025 fifth-round pick (No. 168 overall) for Las Vegas’ No. 6 overall pick, 2025 second-rounder (No. 37 overall), 2025 third-rounder (No. 68), 2026 first-round pick and 2026 fourth-rounder. He then proposes the Browns trade Garrett to the Detroit Lions for the No. 28 overall pick, a conditional 2026 second-round pick that could become a first and a 2026 third-rounder.

Check out CBS Sports’ latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft below:

1. Las Vegas Raiders (via trade with TEN): Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso starts his latest mock off with a bang, projecting new Raiders minority owner Tom Brady will be highly motivated to land the son of NFL great (and Buffs head coach) Deion Sanders, and will trade Las Vegas’ top three 2025 picks AND its 2026 first- and fourth-round picks to do so. That’s quite the haul, but for an organization that hasn’t had a true franchise QB since 2022, it could be well worth the price.

Trapasso: “Let’s run back the idea of Tom Brady and Co. making a move to land Sanders at No. 1, just so they assure themselves they land him in this draft.”

2. Cleveland Browns: Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State

Given Trapasso’s projected trade of Garrett to the Lions, this simply makes too much sense as the Browns land arguably the draft’s most pro-ready prospect and can still fill necessary holes with the additional picks. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Carter was dominant off the edge for Penn State, racking up 12 sacks, 61 pressures, a NCAA-best 23.5 tackles for loss and 68 total tackles in 2024.

Trapasso: “After moving Garrett to the NFC, the Browns replenish the No. 1 edge-rusher spot with a youthful, uber-athletic talent who costs a fraction of the price.”

3. New York Giants: Cam Ward, QB, Miami

With Sanders off the board, the QB-needy Giants don’t waste any time rushing the stage to turn in Ward’s name at No. 3. The 22-year-old Ward is considered the draft’s most pro-ready QB, especially after leading the FBS with 39 passing TDs and ranking second nationally with 4,313 yards on 67.2-percent passing while spearheading the Hurricanes’ No. 1-ranked offense in 2024.

Trapasso: “The Giants HAVE to go quarterback here, and Ward would be a fine get for New York at No. 3 overall.”

4. New England Patriots: Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado

Finding quality protection for second-year QB Drake Maye, last seasons’ No. 3 overall pick, will be vital this offseason. But if the draft plays out like Trapasso projects, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner may be too good to pass up at No. 4. Hunter is a generational talent after racking up 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense and four interceptions, 11 passes defended and 36 total tackles on defense.

Trapasso: “While Will Campbell would be sensible as a building block — pun intended — for Drake Maye, the Patriots feel better about landing suitable offensive linemen later in the draft and can’t pass on the supremely gifted Hunter here. They also need more dynamic playmakers on the roster.”

5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

Another no-brainer given the Jaguars’ abhorrent pass defense last season, finishing dead-last in the NFL allowing 257.4 passing yards per game in 2024. The 6-foot-2 Johnson is a natural playmaker at corner after racking up nine interceptions during his Michigan career, including returning both of his two INTs last season for touchdowns before a turf-toe injury ended his year.

Trapasso: “The Jaguars have to get more talent into the secondary. Johnson checks the boxes for a lockdown No. 1 cornerback.”

6. Tennessee Titans (via trade with LV): Mason Graham, DT, Michigan

After happily accepting the Raiders’ haul of draft picks to slide back five spots, the Titans are still in position to select one of the draft’s most seasoned and reliable defenders, and the top-rated defensive tackle in Graham. The powerful 6-foot-3, 320-pound Graham is a plug-and-play prospect after tallying 52 tackles, 26 pressures, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks in 2024

Trapasso: “The new Titans GM Mike Borgonzi had a front-row seat to the havoc that Chris Jones wreaked on a routine basis in Kansas City. He drafts a running mate for Jeffery Simmons up front.”

7. New York Jets: Will Campbell, OT, LSU

With news the Jets are officially moving on from 41-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers, New York’s offseason rebuild is officially underway. And while the Jets will have plenty of holes to fill, Trapasso can’t imagine new head coach Aaron Glenn passing on the best tackle in the draft at No. 7 overall. The reliable 6-foot-6, 323-pound Campbell allowed just two sacks on 524 pass-block snaps in 2024.

Trapasso: “The Jets add another youthful blocker up front to pair with Olu Fashanu for the foreseeable future.”

8. Carolina Panthers: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona

The Panthers continue to build around former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young, who flashed serious progress late last season after a mid-season benching. And while more protection would be welcomed, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound McMillan is a steady playmaker who ranked third in the FBS with 1,319 receiving yards on 84 receptions and eight touchdowns as a Biletnikoff finalist in 2024.

Trapasso: “The Panthers get Bryce Young a rebounder with YAC mastery in McMillan.”

9. New Orleans Saints: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State

The injury-riddled Saints struggled to move the ball with any consistency in 2024, something Warren proved quite effective at during the Nittany Lions’ run to the College Football Playoff in 2024. The 6-foot-6, 261-pound Warren, a former quarterback like Taysom Hill, led the Big Ten with 104 receptions for 1,233 yards and 13 total touchdowns, including one passing and four rushing.

Trapasso: “The Saints passed on Brock Bowers a year ago and now get another freakish specimen at the tight end position.”

10. Chicago Bears: James Pearce Jr., EDGE, Tennessee

While addressing a Bears offensive line that surrendered a league-worst 68 sacks in 2024 is vital this offseason, Trapasso sees too much value in Pearce, a two-time All-SEC first-team selection that struggled to live up to the preseason hype after notching a team-high 10 sacks in 2023. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Pearce still managed to lead the Vols with 7.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 2024.

Trapasso: “The Bears get a true running mate for Montez Sweat along their defensive line with the similarly long and athletic Pearce from Tennessee.”
