2025 NFL Draft: ESPN pair Quinn Ewers, Dallas Cowboys as good fit

Quinn Ewers has been one of the more discussed prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. Nobody is quite sure where the Texas product will wind up being selected. Hearing his name called on Day 2 is certainly possible, while others project sometime in Day 3.
Finding the right fit for Ewers appears to be more important than anything. For ESPN’s Benjamin Solak, he believes the Dallas Cowboys are the team for Ewers. He sees a player needing time to develop without the pressure of playing right away. Given the quarterback situation in Dallas, it might be a perfect match.
“Why not take another sixth-round flier in Ewers?” Solak asked. “The No. 1 quarterback in his 2021 recruiting class, Ewers spent one season at Ohio State before transferring to Texas, his home state, to play for the Longhorns. The recruiting ranking was a product of Ewers’ live arm. He can generate velocity from a variety of arm angles, and he has a wicked quick release when throwing in rhythm…
“Ewers remains a developmental prospect in that he has the physical tools of an NFL quarterback but lacks many of the necessary skills to reliably play the position well… Dallas will feel like home to Ewers, and he could stick on the roster as a QB3 and fight for the backup job.”
The Cowboys are invested in Dak Prescott long-term. Last offseason saw Prescott sign a four-year extension, tying him to the franchise through the 2028 season. But injuries have been there throughout his career and at times, Cooper Rush has come up big.

Rush is now in Baltimore, and for a few weeks, the Cowboys were left without a backup quarterback. Trading for Joe Milton seemingly fixed the issue, giving up a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft. Closing up shop on the position may be easy but Dallas has not drafted a signal-caller in the past four cycles. Ben DiNucci, a seventh-rounder in 2020, was the last one.
Solak projects Ewers to be taken in the sixth round by Dallas at No. 211 overall. He would get to play for his hometown team, growing up in Southlake, TX. The environment would be a familiar one and not having the pressure of starting gives Ewers the ability to grow.
Potentially an interesting fit if the scenario presents itself from Green Bay. Ewers in a Cowboys helmet would produce quite the storylines as well.
