The Pittsburgh Steelers need a quarterback — and Shedeur Sanders is still on the board heading into day three of the 2025 NFL Draft. ESPN analyst Jordan Reid believes it’s the perfect fit, he revealed on SportsCenter on Saturday.

Pittsburgh boasts the 21st pick in the fourth round (123 overall) on Saturday. Reid believes it’s the best option for the Steelers at this point. However, he questioned whether or not the organization would be able to pull the trigger on the former Colorado quarterback.

“I could see them taking him, but once again, they’ve already passed over him twice,” Reid said. “They did it in the first round when they selected Derrick Harmon, and then they did it yesterday in the third round when they selected running back Kaleb Johnson out of Iowa. So what’s different? They possibly could pass on him again. But if you didn’t select him on day two, why would you select him on day three? What’s the difference?

“But I still see the Pittsburgh Steelers as a logical landing spot, just because they don’t have a starting quarterback right now, outside of Mason Rudolph. … I believe Shedeur Sanders could come in right away and be the starting quarterback in Pittsburgh, especially for a team that just signed DK Metcalf to a big time long term extension. You still have George Pickens there as well. They need a starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be a great option for them.”

To not only draft Sanders but to make him their starting quarterback after passing on him twice would be an interesting turn of events. Given Sanders’ status as a potential first-round pick coming into the 2025 NFL Draft, seeing him start Week 1 for an NFL team wouldn’t have been unheard of two days ago.

Reid mentioned that the Steelers have gone back and forth with Aaron Rodgers. His future is uncertain, and Mason Rudolph isn’t the team’s long-term option under center. Why not try and draft Sanders and hope it works out? Day three contracts are worth significantly less money than what first or second-rounder will sign, so taking the chance on him won’t be costly.

With most other teams already having filled the void under center during the draft, the options for Sanders as a year-one starter have dwindled significantly. However, his descent into day three may not be the worst thing for the former Colorado quarterback’s career.
