Although all eyes are on the quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft, Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter and Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter are widely considered the top two players on the board. However, one of them could end up outside the top four picks after a “fascinating” visit, according to Todd McShay.

Carter took a visit to the New England Patriots this week, just over a week before the draft gets underway from Green Bay. The Patriots have the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, and the growing sense is Hunter will be a Top-3 pick.

But considering Carter headed to Foxboro this week, McShay said that could mean he’s in play at No. 4. In addition, Shedeur Sanders could also be squarely in the mix for the New York Giants with the No. 3 overall pick.

“The other part that’s fascinating to me is, do you know who had his fourth and final visit with the team? Kind of last minute. Abdul Carter with the New England Patriots,” McShay said. “Here we are, 10 days out from the draft – April 14, 2025. … The agent doesn’t let Abdul Carter travel to Foxboro, Mass., if he thinks there’s a chance.

“So the agent’s getting the same information that I’m getting, that NFL teams are getting, that Shedeur could be in play at three. … So if you’re a Patriots fan and you’re, like, ‘Yeah, I like Will Campbell a lot, offensive tackle.’ And I’m told it’s either Abdul, if he falls to four, or it’s Will Campbell. That’s another bit of information. Again, not all information is accurate. But it’s coming from pretty good sources that just wouldn’t say, I have a good feeling or sense or a good source on this.”

Sanders’ draft stock remains an interesting discussion point ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. He’s considered one of the top two quarterbacks available, behind former Miami star Cam Ward, but there was a “sense” he could wind up outside the first three picks.

Things took another twist last week when NFL Network reported New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr might miss the season due to injury. Another turn came Monday when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Giants were holding a private workout with Sanders ahead of Wednesday’s deadline to do so.

With nine days left to go until Draft Day, there’s still plenty left for teams to decide. It all comes into focus April 24 when the 2025 NFL Draft gets underway from Green Bay.
