2025 NFL Draft: Trade for No. 1 pick rocks CBS Sports updated mock, featuring 3 QBs starting off draft
Tom Brady has been a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders for only a few short months, but his impact on the future of the franchise can’t be understated.
That’s especially relevant given the future Hall of Fame quarterback’s hands-on involvement in the Raiders’ recent hiring of new general manager John Spytek, who was Brady’s teammate at Michigan, and Pete Carroll as head coach.
Given that impact, CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso believes Brady and company will be highly motivated to make a trade with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 overall pick and lock up Las Vegas’ future franchise quarterback in Colorado‘s Shedeur Sanders, whom Brady has a previous relationship with. CBS Sports’ quarterback news doesn’t end there, with Trapasso projecting another early run on QBs after a record six were taken in the first 12 picks of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Check out how CBS Sports predicts the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft will play out after the Raiders’ big move up to No. 1:
1. Las Vegas Raiders (via trade with Titans): Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
In this new mock, CBS starts off with a bang, projecting the Raiders will sell the farm to get their franchise quarterback off the future in Sanders. That involves Las Vegas overwhelming Tennessee by offering three first-round picks — No. 6 overall in 2025 along with their 2026 and 2027 first-rounders — as well as a 2025 second-round pick for the No. 1 overall selection and a 2025 fourth-rounder. It just might be too much for the Titans to pass up, especially if they can still land one of the top players on their board at No. 6.
CBS Sports: “We cannot rule out the possibility of the Raiders — and new minority owner Tom Brady — making an aggressive push to draft Shedeur Sanders. There’s a chance Sanders’ connection with Brady will make it too dicey for Las Vegas to simply hope and wait for him to fall to No. 6 overall.”
2. Cleveland Browns: Cam Ward, QB, Miami
This might be a surprise to some, but given the uncertainty around injured Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, the ability to draft college football’s most productive QB in 2024 is too good pass up for Cleveland. Ward led the FBS with 39 passing TDs and ranked second nationally with 4,313 passing yards on 67.2-percent passing while spearheading the Hurricanes’ No. 1-ranked offense in 2024.
CBS Sports: “Cam Ward has some footwork issues to clean up but does have quality improvisational skill and improved from in the pocket in each of his last three seasons in college.”
3. New York Giants: Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
CBS wasn’t done with its surprises, projecting the quarterback-needy Giants jump the shark and pull the trigger on the controversial but highly-skilled Milroe at No. 3 overall. Milroe has drawn comparisons to Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson given their natural running abilities and strong throwing arms, but he has his doubters after taking a step back as a passer in 2024. Still, Milroe’s playmaking can’t be overstated after leading the SEC with 36 total TDs this past season, including 20 rushing scores.
CBS Sports: “Semi nightmare for the Giants, but Jalen Milroe has freaky talent and is an ascending thrower. Another high-upside passer for Brian Daboll.”
4. New England Patriots: Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado
The true winners of CBS’ early run on quarterbacks are the Patriots, who would luck into the top-rated player on most NFL draft boards in Hunter, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner as a true two-way threat. Hunter is a generational talent after racking up 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense and four interceptions, 11 passes defended and 36 total tackles on defense.
CBS Sports: “Travis Hunter to the Patriots would be tremendous for everyone involved. New England gets a ridiculous two-way player, and Hunter can be featured prominently right away.”
5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
The Jaguars waste little time addressing their defensive issues after ranking dead-last in the pass defense this past season, allowing a league-worst 257.4 yards per game through the air in 2024. The 6-foot-2 Johnson is a natural playmaker at corner after racking up nine interceptions at Michigan, including his lone two INTs last season returned for touchdowns.
CBS Sports: “The Jaguars have to get more talent into the secondary. Will Johnson checks the boxes for a lockdown No. 1 cornerback.”
6. Tennessee Titans (via trade with Raiders): Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State
The Titans happily take the Raiders’ next 3 first-round picks and a second-rounder and still land arguably the best overall player in the draft. If it plays out like this, it would be an absolute fleecing by Tennessee. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Carter was dominant off the edge for Penn State, racking up 12 sacks, 61 pressures, a NCAA-best 23.5 tackles for loss and 68 total tackles in 2024.

CBS Sports: “A trade that works out for both sides. The Titans get a freaky specimen on the edge — which is a major need — and, along with this pick, the Raiders’ 2026 first-round pick, their 2027 first-rounder, their second-round pick in 2025 and only send back a fourth-round pick this year with No. 1 overall.”
7. New York Jets: Will Campbell, OT, LSU
The 6-foot-6, 323-pound Campbell lands with the win-now Jets, who face an offseason of uncertainty with an aging offense led by 41-year-old QB Aaron Rodgers and 32-year-old WR Davante Adams. While there are questions about his position, Campbell has been extremely reliable as LSU’s left tackle the last few years, including giving up just two sacks on 524 pass-block snaps in 2024.
CBS Sports: “The youth movement at offensive tackle continues for the Jets with the cleanest offensive tackle in the class.”
8. Carolina Panthers: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
The Panthers land another first-round playmaker for former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young, this time in the form of 6-foot-5, 215-pound McMillan, who ranked third in the FBS with 1,319 receiving yards on 84 receptions and eight touchdowns as a Biletnikoff finalist in 2024.
CBS Sports: “Tetairoa McMillan would give Bryce Young a serious rebounder on the perimeter, which is exactly what he needs.”
9. New Orleans Saints: Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
The Saints might miss out on the big-bodied McMillan, but they still land one of the top receivers in the draft in Burden, who shined as a sophomore with 86 catches for 1,212 yards and nine TDs in 2023. Burden took a statistical step back in 2024 with 676 yards and eight TDs, but his talent and potential in undeniable.
CBS Sports: “Stat-wise, Luther Burden III didn’t have a tremendous 2024, but his traits are fantastic. He’s sudden, runs crisp routes, and bounces off tackles on a routine basis after the catch. And he tracks it effortlessly downfield. Another weapon for Derek Carr. It’s needed.”
10. Chicago Bears: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
CBS capped its Top 10 with another surprise, as new Bears head coach Ben Johnson lands Chicago’s next great running back in Jeanty, who came within less than 30 yards of eclipsing Barry Sanders‘ NCAA single-season rushing record with 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns as the Heisman runner-up in 2024.
CBS Sports: “How about a scenario in which the Cowboys don’t draft Ashton Jeanty … and Ben Johnson and the Bears land the premier running back in this class?”
