2025 NFL free agency: Stefon Diggs meeting with New England Patriots

As the New England Patriots look for wide receiver help for Drake Maye, they could look to bring in a No. 1 target. Stefon Diggs is meeting with the franchise Wednesday, The Athletic’s Chad Graff reported.

Diggs spent last season with the Houston Texans, but suffered a torn ACL that cut his year short. In eight games, he had 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdowns.

With the timing of the injury, Diggs might not be ready for Week 1 of the 2025 season. However, he could still provide the top-end receiver the Patriots need for Maye as he enters his second year.

Diggs arrived in Houston via a trade from the Buffalo Bills, where he emerged as Josh Allen’s top target. He made four Pro Bowls with the franchise and was a First Team All-Pro selection in 2020 when he led the league with 127 receptions and 1,535 receiving yards while also hauling in eight touchdowns.

That began a run of four impressive seasons with the Bills. In 2021, Stefon Diggs set a new career-high with 10 touchdown catches, and he surpassed that a year later with 11 touchdown receptions while totaling 1,429 yards. All told, during his time in Buffalo, Diggs totaled 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns.

The Patriots continue their quest for more playmakers around Maye, who showed flashes as a rookie out of North Carolina in 2024. New England entered free agency with the most salary cap space in the league and has been active, making two big splashes on defense. Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Milton Williams signed a four-year, $104 million contract and former Detroit Lions cornerback Carlton Davis inked a three-year, $54 million deal.

Still, new head coach Mike Vrabel said the Patriots would continue to look for wide receiver help as free agency rolls along. While he didn’t get into specifics, he noted the franchise’s efforts to add more help outside.

“I’m not going to talk about any of the players other than the ones that are right here and the ones that are currently on our football team,” Vrabel said. “We’ll continue to target. Mack Hollins will be in here tomorrow. He’s a wide receiver. But we’ll continue to look at the wide receiver position as it relates to free agency, explore every option with other teams, and potentially then we’ll get to the point where we’re looking at the draft. There’s just a lot of time, and I know that everybody is like, it’s over in free agency. It’s never over.”
