2025 NFL Scouting Combine: Top 10 fastest 40-yard dash times for running backs

Day 3 of on-field workouts at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine started with the running backs. Considered one of the deepest positions in the NFL Draft, the Top 10 fastest 40-yard dash times are in.
Big names such as Ashton Jeanty and Cam Skattebo didn’t participate in the 40-yard dash, but others turned in impressive performances. Bhayshul Tuten led the way out of Virginia Tech with a 4.32-second run, which would stand as one of the five fastest times ever by a running back at the NFL Scouting Combine. Jaydon Blue followed at 4.38 seconds.
Saturday’s workouts are sure to add to the intrigue around a heralded running back draft class this year. Here are the Top 10 fastest 40-yard dash times for running backs at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
1. Bhayshul Tuten, Virginia Tech – 4.32 seconds
His first attempt at the 40-yard dash was impressive, but Bhayshul Tuten stole the show with his second go-round. He clocked in at 4.32 seconds, which is similar to the time De’Von Achane logged when he was coming out of Texas A&M in 2023.
Tuten spent two years at Virginia Tech after starting his college career at North Carolina A&T. He had a huge 2024 season, totaling 1,159 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 81 receiving yards and two touchdowns as part of the passing game.
2. Jaydon Blue, Texas – 4.38 seconds

After Texas dealt with multiple injuries in its running backs room, Jaydon Blue stepped up. He also surely helped his draft stock by turning in a 4.38-second run in the 40-yard dash during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
Blue served as the No. 2 runing back behind Quintrevion Wisner at Texas, but still had solid numbers. He ended the year with 730 rushing yards and a team-high eight touchdowns as he served as the red zone back.
3. Brashard Smith, SMU – 4.39 seconds
Another running back to break the 4.4-second mark, Brashard Smith put his speed on full display. He tied with Jaydon Blue for the second-fastest time at the position at 4.39 seconds.
Smith started his college career at Miami before transferring to SMU this past season. He had the best year of his career, totaling 1,332 yards and 14 touchdowns to help lead the Mustangs to the College Football Playoff.
4. RJ Harvey, UCF – 4.40 seconds
After back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at UCF, RJ Harvey opened some eyes with his 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. He turned in a 4.40-second showing to rank in the Top 10 among running backs.
Harvey broke out over the last two years at UCF and set new career-highs with 1,577 yards and a Big 12-leading 22 touchdowns. All told, over his final two seasons with the Knights, he had 2,993 yards and 38 touchdowns to end his career on a high note.
5. Montrell Johnson, Florida – 4.41 seconds

After taking over as the lead back at Florida this past season, Montrell Johnson struggled with injuries at times. Now that he’s back healthy, he showcased his speed with a 4.41-second run in the 40-yard dash.
Johnson spent three years in Gainesville after transferring from Louisiana. This past season, he totaled 593 yards and six touchdowns while splitting carries with freshman Jaden Baugh.
6. Trevor Etienne, Georgia – 4.42 seconds
One of the crucial pieces to Georgia’s offense after transferring from Florida, Trevor Etienne had an impressive showing at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine on Saturday. He ranked in the Top 10 among running backs in the 40-yard dash with a time of 4.42 seconds.
Etienne was impressive during his lone season at Georgia, totaling 609 yards and nine touchdowns through 10 games. Of course, he knows what it’s like to make it in the NFL after seeing his brother, Travis, shine with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

T7. DJ Giddens, Kansas State – 4.43 seconds
After taking over the Kansas State backfield, DJ Giddens shined through his final two seasons of college football. He also impressed at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.43-second run in the 40-yard dash.
Giddens topped the 1,000 yard mark in each of his last two years in Manhattan, but saved his best for last. He totaled 1,343 rushing yards in 2024 to go with seven touchdowns before declaring for the draft.
T7. TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State – 4.43 seconds

One half of Ohio State’s two-headed monster in the backfield, TreVeyon Henderson played a key role in leading the Buckeyes to a national championship. At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, he showed why he worked so well alongside Quinshon Judkins, running a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash.
Despite splitting carries in 2024, Henderson still topped 1,000 yards for the second time in his career. He had 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground while also adding 284 receiving yards and a touchdown in the passing game.
T9. Donovan Edwards, Michigan – 4.44 seconds
A former highly touted recruit, Donovan Edwards was crucial in Michigan’s run to a 2023 national championship. He’s also presenting an interesting case in the NFL Draft, especially after cracking the Top 10 among running backs with a 4.44-second 40-yard dash.
Edwards saw his production drop in 2024 as Kalel Mullings took over the lead role in the Michigan backfield. Still, he had 589 yards and four touchdowns .
T9. Jarquez Hunter, Auburn – 4.44 seconds
The leader of the Auburn running game, Jarquez Hunter cemented himself as one of the SEC’s top playmakers in 2024. He also impressed at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, clocking in at 4.44 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Hunter set a new career-high in 2024, rushing for 1,201 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Auburn offense. His 6.4 yards per attempt was also the best in the SEC as he finished up his college career.
