NASCAR and the Cup Series teams are still in the middle of charter negotiations, and 23XI Racing is teasing the governing body a bit. Curtis Polk, the business partner of Michael Jordan and co-owner of 23XI had an interesting shirt on today for the NASCAR Southern 500.

Well, it wasn’t really his shirt that was interesting. It was more what was on his shirt that was interesting. With a new charter offer being handed to the teams recently, one has to think that this is a response to that offer.

Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports is at Darlington and was going to try and ask Polk about the charters. But was met with this sign on the back of Polk’s shirt.

“Please don’t ask me about my Charter. I don’t want to disparage NASCAR and lose it.”

Curtis Polk and 23XI Racing have been aggressive in the charter negotiations. It appears that they may have been too aggressive in the past. If Polk felt the need to put this piece of paper on himself, then something was said to him about… well not saying anything.

Michael Jordan has said that NASCAR will die without charters. There has been growing worry about how long the negotiations have taken. However, there seems to be a feeling at NASCAR that a deal is close to being reached.

Polk has been vocal about the need for teams to stick together. These negotiations only work if everyone is in sync. So, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say he’s gotten on NASCAR’s nerves.

23XI Racing prepared for Southern 500

Tonight, the Southern 500 will determine the regular season champion and the final playoff entries. 23XI Racing is in the mix for the championship and for the final playoff position.

Tyler Reddick comes into the race 17 points up on Kyle Larson and 18 points up on Chase Elliott for the regular season. While that is a comfy lead, it isn’t for certain. So, Reddick has to have a solid race to avoid being upset.

As for Bubba Wallace, he is 21 points outside of the final playoff spot. Chris Buescher holds onto that final spot as of right now. When these two raced here earlier in the season, they were both top-5 cars on the day. Buescher had contact with Reddick late that ruined his day.

So, it’s down to one race. When the checkered flag flies at the end of 500 miles tonight, we will know who the regular season champion is and the final playoff field. It’s going to be a great night, tune in on USA!
