49ers give injury update on Trent Williams, Deebo Samuel
Two of the San Francisco 49ers key offensive weapons are banged up leading up to the NFC Championship, but both are expected to play against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend.
Star wide receiver Deebo Samuel took a helmet to the side of the leg against the Packers Saturday. Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Samuel is sore, but the 49ers expect Samuel to be able to practice this week.
Samuel was seen hobbling off the field at the end of the game, not putting much pressure on his leg, but Shanahan alluded to the fact that he’s on track to suit up against the Rams.
On third down and right on the fringe of field goal range, the 49ers needed a first down. Obviously, the 49ers went to Samuel to bail themselves out.
At first, it looked like the Packers had the wide receiver bottled up on the draw play. Then, Samuel simply wouldn’t go down — weaving and fighting his way through and passed the first down marker. All that was left was for kicker Robbie Gould to kick the football, and the Packers were sent home from the playoffs.
Moreover, Samuel found the first down — but he came off the field limping immediately. 49ers faithful held their breath, hoping their best offensive weapon wasn’t done for the season. As San Francisco’s season continues, the good news is it looks like Samuel’s will as well.
“My ankle got twisted up and I got scared there for a minute, but I’ll be all right,” Samuel told NFL Network after the game.

The South Carolina product hauled in three of his four targets on the night for 44 yards. He also took 10 carried for 39 yards as well.
Almost as importantly, starting offensive tackle Trent Williams suffered an ankle sprain during Saturday’s Divisional Round win. X-rays showed no fracture the following day, according to Shanahan. The 49ers coach also said he wasn’t sure whether Williams’ injury was a high-ankle sprain.
Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and cornerback Ambry Thomas were both banged up against the Packers. Wilson was carted off with an ankle injury, though has a chance to play this weekend, according to Shanahan. Thomas has been dealing with a bone bruise in his knee and is doing “much better” this week and has a “better chance” to play against the Rams, his head coach said.
