San Francisco 49ers (6-10) CEO Jed York confirmed Monday that both head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch will return in 2025.

“They’re not going anywhere,” York told The San Francisco Standard.

York added: “You can write that, for sure. They’re not going anywhere.”

Shanahan and Lynch have long been considered one of the NFL‘s best head coach-general manager duos, so it’s no shock York wants to hold onto that despite what has been a tough year in San Francisco. Coming off a Super Bowl appearance, their second in the last five years, the 49ers are set to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

Injuries have played a big role in their regression, with impact players such as receiver Brandon Aiyuk, running back Christian McCaffrey and linebacker Dre Greenlaw among others missing significant time this season.

But Shanahan and Lynch have proven themselves since coming aboard together in 2017. Both played a hand in rebuilding the roster and the 49ers have gone 70-61 since then, winning three NFC West titles. For their efforts, both inked contract extensions in 2023 that guaranteed them money through 2026 and potentially longer.

Shanahan’s extension didn’t stop the rampant rumors linking him to other openings, such as the one with the Chicago Bears (4-12). To his credit, Shanahan put an end to those rumors with a definitive statement.

“I don’t want to be any place in the world more than here,” Shanahan said earlier this month. “And my family is just as strong if not a lot stronger [about that]. They’re going to have to kick me out of here.”

Lynch found the rumors linking Shanahan away from San Francisco “comical.”

“I’ve found the whole discussion on Kyle and some of the stuff rather comical,” Lynch told San Francisco radio station KNBR. “We have won four of the last five division championships. We’ve been in two Super Bowls. The standard here is to win championships, and we’ve fallen short of that, but we have an excellent head coach. And the fact people are talking about stuff like that, I do find it comical.”
