49ers quarterback Josh Dobbs leaps over defender for touchdown vs. Titans
The San Francisco 49ers are kicking off the 2024 preseason with a matchup against the Tennessee Titans. And while the preseason may be just getting underway, 49ers quarterback Josh Dobbs appears to already be in mid-season form.
In the fourth quarter of the preseason matchup, with San Francisco trailing Tennessee 17-7, Dobbs dropped back on a second-and-goal from the Titans’ 6-yard line. As the pocket began to collapse around the veteran quarterback, he quickly changed gears, climbed and escaped the pocket to the right, and darted for the goal line. As he did, he was met right at the goal line by a Tennessee defender. Dobbs would proceed to go airborne, leaping over the defensive player to score the touchdown, inching San Francisco closer to a preseason opener come-from-behind victory.

49ers cornerback broke his forearm after a missed tackle
San Francisco cornerback Ambry Thomas broke his forearm Saturday in the 49ers preseason opener against the Titans.
Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the news in his post-game press conference. He said Thomas will miss “some time” but it’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined.

Thomas is a former Michigan Wolverine standout. The 49ers selected him in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has started 11 games and played in 42.
The injury occurred after Thomas missed a tackle on a screen pass thrown by Titans quarterback Mason Rudolph. He fell to the turf. He then was able to walk to the sideline, but he couldn’t move his right arm. After a short evaluation on the field, 49ers medical personnel took him into the locker room for a more extensive examination.
He’s in his final season of the contract he signed as a rookie. Last season, he played in fewer than half the defensive snaps for the 49ers, a team that lost the Super Bowl in overtime to the Chiefs. With San Francisco adding defensive backs, there is speculation that this season was going to be Thomas’ final one in San Francisco.
