49ers rookie WR Ricky Pearsall gets promising health update after suffering gunshot wound to chest
San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall was upgraded to “fair condition” by the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Sunday after being shot in the chest the day prior as the victim of an alleged armed robbery attempt, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.
The 49ers added in a statement that Pearsall was released from the hospital.
The armed robbery attempt and shooting took place around 3:40 p.m. PT, a block away from San Francisco’s Union Square. A struggle for the gun ensued and both Pearsall and the suspect were shot. Pearsall and the suspect, a 17-year-old male from Tracy, California, were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The assailant has since been arrested.
“Upon arrival, officers located two male subjects suffering from injuries. Officers rendered aid and medics transported both subjects to a local hospital for further medical evaluation,” San Francisco police said in a statement. “During the preliminary investigation, officers learned one of the subjects attempted to rob the victim, San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Pearsall. During the attempted robbery, a physical altercation ensued, and both the suspect and victim were injured.

Mother of Ricky Pearsall updates son’s status after he was shot in robbery attempt
Pearsall, the 49ers’ first round selection out of Florida, was signing autographs earlier in the afternoon and was on his way to Union Square. Pearsall’s mother, Erin, said in a Facebook post that the bullet exited out of her son’s chest and remarkably missed his vital organs.
“Update on my baby boy,” she wrote. “First and [foremost], I want to thank GOD for protecting my baby boy. He is extremely lucky, GOD shielded him. He was shot in the chest and it exited out his back. Thanks be to GOD it missed his vital organs. He is in good spirits right now. Life is so precious my friends. Please love each other. My son was spared today by the grade of GOD. Please pray for my baby.”
