If the injury to Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is serious, it could have ramifications for the Green Bay Packers. Traded to New York from Green Bay this offseason, Rodgers suffered an ankle injury on the first offensive drive of his debut Monday night against the Buffalo Bills and was carted off the field wearing a walking boot.

He will not return for this game at least, but it remains to be seen whether the injury will cause him to miss any time beyond that. If it does, the Packers could miss out on a potential first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Green Bay received a total of four picks by trading Rodgers, one of which is a conditional second rounder in 2024. That pick would become a first-round selection if the quarterback were to play 65% of the snaps this season. However, given his injury Monday night, that’s now in serious doubt.

The Packers still received three picks from the 2023 draft — a first rounder, a second rounder and a fifth rounder. Worst case scenario they have to take a second rounder in 2024, but they’ll still come away with a total of four picks.

For now, we’ll await further news on Rodgers. If he ultimately is out for a significant period of time, it would be a major blow to the Jets’ aspirations of competing for a Super Bowl this year.

Report: Jets fear Aaron Rodgers suffered Achilles injury, schedule MRI for Monday

The New York Jets fear that quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury during Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills Monday.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, it’s currently unknown if Rodgers ruptured his Achilles. The Jets have scheduled an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. Rodgers exited the game after suffering an ankle injury on the first offensive drive of the game.

Rodgers went into the blue medical tent after being helped off the field. The 39-year-old was taken back to the locker room on a cart and is out for the remainder of the game, Lisa Salters of ESPN reported. According to Judy Battista of NFL.com, Rodgers is wearing a boot on his left foot. Rodgers underwent x-rays on his ankle which were negative.

The injury occurred after Bills edge rusher Leonard Floyd sacked Rodgers to the ground. If it is indeed an Achilles, it would seem likely that the quarterback would be done for the season.
