Aaron Rodgers on connection with Jets WR Garrett Wilson: 'We gotta the ball more to 'G''
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets offense had some moments last night, particularly with Garrett Wilson.
But in the 32-19 loss to the 49ers, Rodgers wants to get the ball more to Wilson, the team’s star wide receiver. A former Ohio State stud, Wilson’s been one of the better receivers in football, despite subpar QB play.
Rodgers throwing the ball more to Wilson, efficiently anyway, could allow the offense to really get going.
“We got to get the ball more to ‘G,’” Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I think he had, how many targets (did) he finish with? You know, we just didn’t have any plays last night. We had, you know, a 12 play touchdown drive with some three and outs. We turned the ball over twice within the first three plays of a drive. And we put together one more, you know, decent drive to score. So it wasn’t sustained drives.
“We obviously weren’t on the field a whole lot either. They, I think, scored on a bunch of drives in a row. But that being said, defense holding (them to) field goals, you know, we got to get ourselves back in the game, and we have a chance to make it a one score game … So we all gotta play a little bit better. But, you know, I think it was a good test for us to see where we’re at. And that we’re gonna be a team that’s gonna ascend throughout the season.”

Rodgers finished his first full game with New York 13-of-21 passing for 167 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Wilson finished with six catches for 60 yards.
It was likely just a relief to see Rodgers finish the entire game, for Jets fans at least. Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon on the fourth play of the season in last year’s opener.
His comeback has been well documented, including a tease at a return during the 2023 season, if the Jets were still in postseason contention.
Despite a loss to the 49ers, there are still a lot of expectations for Rodgers and the Jets to compete for the AFC title. Next up, Rodgers and the squad travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
