It took him two series, but Aaron Rodgers got the Jets into the end zone Saturday in his first-ever game in his new green and white uniform.

Technically, the Jets were the road team in this all-New York preseason finale at Met Life Stadium, Rodgers, who joined the Jets from the Packers back in April, was playing in his first preseason game since 2018.

And here’s the answer to a future trivia question. Rodgers’ first-ever touchdown toss as Jet was to former Ohio State star receiver Garrett Wilson.

Aaron Rodgers started for Jets, but Giants didn’t use Daniel Jones

Jets coach Robert Saleh only wanted the 39-year-old quarterback to knock off some rust with the season kickoff in two weeks. Plus, playing the Giants always is a fun time, although Daniel Jones, their quarterback, isn’t playing.

Rodgers completed five of eight passes for 47 yards through his first two series. His touchdown to Wilson was 14 yards. Maybe he inspired his defense. Brandon Echols intercepted Giants reserve quarterback Tommy DeVito on the next series and returned it for a touchdown.

With a 14-0 lead, Saleh sent Zach Wilson to replace Rodgers. The next time the Jets fans will see their new favorite quarterback will be Sept. 11. It’s the first Monday Night Football game of the year, with the Buffalo Bills traveling to Met Life Stadium. Aaron Rodgers-Josh Allen is quite the matchup, especially early in the season.

Giants didn’t take it easy on Rodgers

The Giants pressured Aaron Rodgers in the opening series. He completed his first pass in a Jets uniform to Wilson. That makes sense. The two became friends since the moment the quarterback moved from Green Bay to NYC. Rodgers says he sees a lot of Davante Adams in Wilson.

The only thing on the line Saturday night are roster spots. (Teams need to be down to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon.) The Giants-Jets meet for real on Oct. 29.
