Major news emerged out of the NFL on Sunday, when a report surfaced from FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer that the New York Jets plan to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers after just two seasons.

Rogers never quite got his feet on firm ground in New York, in part thanks to an Achilles injury he suffered just a few plays into the 2023 campaign.

Now, he’s on the outs looking for a new team.

“Well listen, I think we’ve got a situation here where you’ve got a new general manager, a new head coach,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday. “And when new general managers, new head coaches come in, they typically like to make changes and bring in their own people. There’s a reason that a team is in the market for changing its general manager and its head coach. So when that happens they like to reset the culture and establish their own culture.”

Aaron Rodgers might not have had his most productive career in 2024, but he was still pretty good overall. He threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, against 11 interceptions.

But New York wasn’t very good, finishing just 5-12.

Schefter believes the new leadership in charge of the organization will simply be looking for a fresh start, and that went into the decision to part ways with Aaron Rodgers.

“I would think that that’s a part of this, that the Jets want to go in their own direction and they want to start over,” Schefter said. “There’s no doubt that Aaron Rodgers still can play and still can play at a high level, but the Jets are starting to build this again from the ground up despite the fact that they’ve got some good talent on their roster. So they’re not expected to bring back Aaron Rodgers at this point in time. Aaron Rodgers will go somewhere else.”

That might not be the only change involved for the Jets, who brought in some familiar help for Rogers.

“He may try to take Davante Adams with him, wherever he’s going,” Schefter said of Aaron Rodgers. “I’d think with Aaron Rodgers not back Davante Adams is not going to be in New York either. Whenever there’s a situation with new head coaches, new general managers, you’re going to see a whole slew of changes. They usually start with some of the most significant people. In this case that’ll be Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, who I expect not to be back both.”
