Aaron Rodgers’ future with the New York Jets going into the 2025 season is murky at best, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

With Aaron Glenn leading the way now as the new head coach, Rodgers might not be back next season. But, nothing has been decided yet.

Heck, Rodgers still has to determine if he wants to even play football next season.

“The New York Jets have a new coaching staff, a new great coach, a new general manager, and oftentimes, when teams have new regimes, that means new players,” Schefter said on NFL Countdown. “And that’s why there are a lot of people across the league who believe that the signs point to Aaron Rodgers not being back in New York, though this issue is far from decided at this point in time. But it would not surprise a lot of people if Rogers wanted to move on and go elsewhere.

“He also has to decide whether or not even wants to play. That’s the first question, but if and when he does that, we’ll see where that future takes him.”

Of course, Rodgers has put together a Hall of Fame career, finishing up his 20th NFL season following the 2024 campaign. Over that time, the veteran quarterback has thrown for over 62,000 yards with 503 touchdowns, winning four MVP awards and a Super Bowl title with the Green Bay Packers, as well.

Aaron Rodgers might not be back with the Jets

In 2023, the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets, but Rodgers missed nearly all of the 2023 season due to a torn Achilles. He returned in 2024 and led the Jets to a 5-12 record despite throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns.

All told, Rodgers is still the best option for the Jets if they want to be competitive in 2025. Whether the legendary quarterback is up for another season remains to be seen, but it’ll be fascinating to speculate regardless, until he gives his answer, which could be any day now.

“I think that Aaron Glenn and Aaron Rodgers have to sit down and No. 1, Aaron Rodgers, first and foremost, has to decide whether or not he wants to play, whether or not he wants to play in New York, whether or not he’s committed to going through all this again,” Schefter said of Rodgers Monday. “If and when that’s the case, then Aaron Glenn’s going to have a decision to make about what they want to do with their franchise.

“From a talent standpoint, there’s probably not a better option out there than Aaron Rodgers. The guy still has it, and he still can play. The question is, what do they want to do, as they’re rebuilding their organization? Is that a long-term play? Do they feel like there’s a better fit for the organization to grow with?”
