After a frustrating two seasons with the New York Jets, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has another major decision to make about his future. With multiple teams looking to acquire his services, Rodgers has a choice about who to play for, or if he would prefer to call it an end to his legendary career.

One of the teams interested in Rodgers is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The two sides have recently had some conversations and now, on an episode of SportsCenter on Sunday morning, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler believes Pittsburgh is in “pole position” to land the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

“With Aaron Rodgers, he had a good meeting on Friday with the Steelers,” Fowler said. “It was sort of exploratory in nature. They weren’t talking brass tax as far as a contract, but they’ve already made a standing offer out to him. So, I’m going to go Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers if I had to predict because I just simply believe that the team is aggressive here. He’s their number one choice.”

Despite that, Pittsburgh isn’t the only team interested in Rodgers. The New York Giants remain a key suitor. They’re just not a suitor that Fowler currently thinks Rodgers would choose to go to ahead of Pittsburgh.

“As it stands, the Giants have not given up on Aaron Rodgers even though they signed Jameis Winston,” Fowler said. “But reading the tea leaves here it looks like the Steelers are in pole position to potentially get this done.”

Aaron Rodgers has had a phenomenal career, winning a Super Bowl and being named MVP four different times. That includes as recently as in 2021. He would join the Jets in 2023 before an Achilles injury derailed his first season there. The second season was a struggle too, going just 5-12 before the team announced it would part ways with him for the 2025 season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers brought in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields for the 2024 season and ultimately went 10-7. Now, however, they’re looking for a way to get over the hump and make a deep playoff run. Fields has, for his part, left for the Jets. Meanwhile, Wilson could also still be an option for Pittsburgh in 2025.

Cam Heyward calls out Aaron Rodgers amid Steelers free agency saga

In the past few seasons, Aaron Rodgers has often been public-facing and has taken the time to make his decisions. That’s something that Steelers star Cam Heyward doesn’t want to see when it comes to Pittsburgh and he called out Rodgers over it.

“I ain’t doing that darkness retreat. I don’t need any of that crap,” Heyward said. “Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple, that’s the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers — if you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.”

Rodgers and the Steelers don’t have an agreement yet and the NFL Draft is rapidly approaching. However, it does seem like the two sides have a mutual interest in one another.
