What’s this? Davante Adams might be headed to the Jets to play with his old friend, Aaron Rodgers? The quarterback certainly wants fans to think that.

Reporters caught up with Rodgers on Thursday as he played a round of golf at the American Century Championship in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

“I love Davante Adams, I can’t wait to play with him…again,” says Aaron Rodgers.

Truly, this is how rumors start.

So is there anything to this newest rumor? It might just be a pressure tactic or a troll by Rodgers. Earlier this week, Adams acknowledged that Rodgers was “in his ear” about joining the quarterback at the Meadowlands.

“He’s in the ear, but it’s not as easy,” Adams said this week on the Up & Adams Show. “Obviously, we can get together and talk about the old times and the potential of doing this and that. But like I said, I’m a Raider and he knows that.”

Yes, Adams is a Raider. He said goodbye to Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers back in 2022. Rodgers left Lambeau a season later.

But the two spent eight glorious years with the Packers. Rodgers would love for the Jets to bring him to NYC. A year ago, Rodgers pushed the Jets to bring in some of his friends, which is why New York signed Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. Lazard still is on the Jets roster, while Cobb is a free agent.

And let it be known that Aaron Rodgers isn’t the only NFL player tugging at Davante Adams’ ear. Josh Jacobs, who spent the past two seasons as Adams’ teammate in Vegas, wants the receiver to come back to Green Bay. Jacobs changed jerseys in the off-season.

The Jets start training camp when the rookies report next Thursday. Veterans like Rodgers report five days later. And count on Rodgers being one of the most scrutinized players in the NFL.

Rodgers was the flashiest signee a year ago, when the Packers traded the disgruntled quarterback to the Jets. New York believed that Rodgers would jump-start their playoff hopes. Instead, his season stalled after only four offensive snaps. He ruptured his Achilles in the Jets season opener against the Bills and was out for the season.

The Jets activated Rodgers to allow him to practice with the team late in the season. However, he didn’t play in any games. Rodgers was a full participant in the OTAs this spring. But he skipped mandatory minicamp for a scheduled trip.

But even if Davante Adams doesn’t play this season with Aaron Rodgers, the Jets made sure to add some talent for their quarterback. The team used its first round pick on Olu Fashanu, an offensive tackle from Penn State. They also signed three free agent linemen, including former Dallas Cowboy Tyron Smith.

And the Jets also added some more talent at receiver. They already had Garrett Wilson, a former first-rounder who Rodgers has likened to Adams. The Jets signed Mike Williams and selected draft Western Kentucky’s Malachi Corley in the third round of April’s draft.
