Aaron Rodgers on future with Jets, NFL: 'I haven't decided'
Aaron Rodgers is still undecided on his future with the New York Jets as well as playing in general. It seems the organization is in the same boat.
So while Rodgers flirts with retirement again, he could come back for another year or so, trying to run it back with certain pieces and a new coaching staff and front office. Not only that, he already admitted to welcoming in a first round QB, should the Jets draft one, and mentor him.
But as of now, nothing’s been decided on Rodgers or the Jets’ front.
“I haven’t decided whether or not I want to play moving forward,” Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show. “They haven’t decided, or maybe they haven’t told me what their plans are moving forward. I’m guessing they’re going to, you know, want to get a GM in here in the next few weeks, and then obviously, let the GM be a part of making that coaching selection with who they want to go with if they haven’t made a decision.
“I mean, I think there’s a world where they just say, hey, you know, thank you. We’re going to go in every direction on January 6th, on AJs birthday and his favorite holiday. And then that’s a possibility. I think there’s also a possibility we’re going to wait and see who the new staff is.”
Following the 2-2 start, the Jets are just 2-9 since. Rodgers has had his struggles this season, but quietly put together a decent statistical season, especially over the last few weeks.

However, it didn’t result in any more wins or a playoff berth. He has 3,511 yards, 24 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a 62.8% completion percentage.
“I was just answering a question,” Rodgers said of the report he’d mentor a young quarterback. “If they wanted you to come back and they drafted, they said they wanted to draft the guy in the first round, I said, Yeah, of course, like, it wouldn’t be the first time. I mean, maybe if they gave me a heads up, that would be the first time for that. But, I know what it was like to be a first round pick and to be in the room with a Hall of Famer.
“And I tried to, you know, to help Jordan (Love) as much as possible. And if there’s a situation where the new staff came in and wanted me to be there, also wanted to make a, you know, make a pick for the future and pick a quarterback, if there was one there they really liked. And of course, as far as pay cuts, I think I’ve already proven I’m willing to take a pay cut. I’ve made a ton of money, and I think if you look at both Davante (Adams) and I’s contracts moving forward for next year, there’s cap numbers that would need to be worked around if they wanted to bring us both back. But again, there’s a lot of things.”
