Aaron Rodgers is setting the record straight on his report of being frustrated at practice during the early stages of the New York Jets training camp. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rodgers said there is a standard for how he and his teammates practice daily.

“I think a lot of that gets overblown from time to time,” he said. “I think there’s a standard we like to set and there’s an accountability that goes along with that. At practice, the standard is very high. I think a lot of that stuff is pretty being in general, but I like to push guys to believe in themselves maybe more than they do at the time.”

Rodgers continued:  “A guy like Joe Tippmann, he has the ability to play a long time in this league at center. “He has a chance to be an All-Pro, I think. So if he’s snapping the ball a little wayward at times, he can take me jumping his ass a little bit and getting on him. Sometimes you need to do that.”

“I think it’s all about the energy,” Rodgers added. “At practice, there are times where things fluctuate. You’re up and down on the energy and at certain points you need to get on guys. I was ready for that today because you felt the third day of pads, going through the motions a little bit. Sometimes it takes one play. … Sometimes it takes me or Breece [Hall], Tyron [Smith] or even Garrett [Wilson] getting on somebody to get things going.”

Aaron Rodgers details animated conversation with Garrett Wilson

One of the reasons it was reported that Rodgers was frustrated at practice is what they saw from him while speaking to Wilson. A video of the two having an animated conversation at camp was shared online, but Rodgers said the conversation was not anything negative.

“I think there’s often appearance versus reality in life and on the football field, and what it appears to be might not always be what the reality actually is, as far as whether or not we’re upset with each other,” Rodgers told reporters. “We’re just passionately talking about the details of a situation that might not have to do with either of us. So, G and I have got a great relationship. We spend time together off the field. On the field, there’s a way of doing things that we both agree on, and when it doesn’t look exactly how we want it to, sometimes there’s some sad conversations that happen.”
