Aaron Rodgers reacts to Jets trading for Davante Adams, reveals when he learned of deal
New York Jets (2-4) quarterback Aaron Rodgers was “pissed” driving home after Monday’s 23-20 Week 6 home defeat to the Buffalo Bills (4-2).
Rodgers felt like he and the Jets gave one away against their AFC East rival and was not happy about it. But upon getting home and looking at his phone, he noticed a text from a former teammate. It was Davante Adams, who was reaching out to inform him he was soon to be a Jet.
“Obviously, really excited,” Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show” Tuesday. “Love Tae, phenomenal player and a dear friend. It was a crappy day, obviously yesterday. We had a real good chance to get to 3-3 and win a home game. We kind of gave that one away. I was pissed driving home through traffic, had a couple messages, I was just not in the mood to talk to anybody. Got home and Tae called me, he texted me, so I finally called him back. About 12:30, 12:45 last night, I heard the news.”
Hours later, it became official. The Jets acquired the All-Pro wideout from the Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) in exchange for a conditional third round draft pick that can turn into second-round pick based on Adams’ performance.
Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams reunited in New York
It’s a steep price to pay for a 31-year-old receiver, yet one the Jets were willing to pay as they sit in organizational disarray. New York fired head coach Robert Saleh last Tuesday, naming defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Jets have dropped three games in a row and have scored just 46 points in those contests.

That’s not what New York signed up for when they brought in Rodgers, the Super Bowl champion and future Pro Football Hall of Famer. Rekindling his connection with Adams could be the missing piece to the operation, or so they hope.
Rodgers and Adams were arguably the league’s best quarterback-receiver duo during their eight-year stint together with the Green Bay Packers (4-2). They connected 622 times for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns and will look to keep it going in New York.
Between Adams, Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall and Allen Lazard among others, the Jets look to have everything to take off as an offense. Their first trial will take place on the road in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) on Sunday Night Football.
