The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly removed themselves from the Aaron Rodgers rat race, leaving the 41-year-old free agent quarterback’s options to the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

Not that the Vikings’ decision will have any impact on the future Hall of Fame QB’s timetable to make a decision a full week into the NFL free agency period, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

“Nothing related to Minnesota has altered Aaron Rodgers’ timeline,” Schefter tweeted Wednesday morning. “One source monitoring Rogers’ potential decision about the 2025 season said this morning that the fre-agent QB ‘is in no rush at all.'”

Rodgers has been weighing his NFL future since being formally released last week following two disappointing seasons with the New York Jets. Now, after most of the NFL’s quarterback-needy teams have already locked up their preferred QB options either through free agency or trade, Rodgers is keeping both the Giants and Steelers waiting in suspense.

“I’m told from a source that Aaron Rodgers has standing offers from the Pittsburgh Steelers [and] New York Giants,” ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler revealed earlier this week. “Those appear to be the two key players here. … Rodgers, as far as I know, is still mulling these offers. He’s not made any sort of firm determination yet. I don’t get the sense that this is all about money here. It’s about surroundings. The ability to win. Most people around the league do expect the Steelers to prevail here, as they do have the better on-field option.”

Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP, has thrown for 62,952 yards and 503 touchdowns over his 20-year NFL career. Whether 2025 is his 21st season remains to be seen.

Report: Vikings out on Aaron Rodgers, committed to JJ McCarthy

The Minnesota Vikings are committed to J.J. McCarthy being their starting quarterback in 2025. They’re planning to add a veteran quarterback, but it won’t be Aaron Rodgers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“The #Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say. The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time,” Pelissero posted on X. “McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1.”

While Rodgers to the Vikings has picked up some steam over recent weeks, as it seemingly made sense for both sides, it’s not hard to see why Minnesota would want McCarthy to be their starting quarterback in 2025. They did draft him in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and the former Michigan star looked solid in limited preseason action last season.
