Aaron Rodgers shared thoughts on potentially coaching after his playing career
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was on the sidelines for the team’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He even wore a headset to talk to the offensive staff and try to help Zach Wilson out throughout the game, leading some to wonder if he has a future in coaching.
On Tuesday, during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, AJ Hawk asked Rodgers if coaching was in his future, but Rodgers seemed less than excited about the idea.
“How’d you even get that out with a straight face?” Aaron Rodgers asked.
AJ Hawk reiterated that he thinks that Aaron Rodgers would be a great coach at that point and Pat McAfee agreed. Hawk also sarcastically added that he was sure Rodgers could handle some kid who couldn’t make any of the same throws as him and that he’d have a lot of patience.
“Good sarcasm. Good sarcasm right there, H, appreciate that. I’m not planning on being a coach.”
Ultimately, Aaron Rodgers isn’t interested in being a coach and seemed to have more concerns about the hat choices he was given by the Jets.
“I was a little disappointed that we didn’t have more hat options. I saw big Mike [McCarthy] last night and I thought their hat was pretty cool. They just had the star and some multi-colors,” Rodgers said.
“I don’t know. I enjoy being on the headset. Not trying to be too much. I can talk directly to Zach, talk to the offensive staff, and switch over to the line too, which is good. Some of the assistants and the line coaches and every now and again just like, it’s like your mom listening to your calls when you’re in junior high trying to talk to a cute girl you’re interested in, just kind of listening in and throwing stuff in or they’ll forget you’re on there.”
It wasn’t a bad experience for Rodgers and he was happy to be back on the sidelines. However, his focus is on playing right now and he doesn’t see coaching in his immediate future following football.

“I have fun with it, but, no, I don’t have any desire to be a coach in five to ten years or anything like that. But great question.”
Aaron Rodgers on his recovery
The biggest focus for Aaron Rodgers right now is his recovery. To this point, it’s gonna better than expected but he still needs to take things one step at a time.
“We’re about five weeks tomorrow since surgery. Five weeks yesterday was the injury. The first goal was to be able to get back on the field for the October 1 game. I was hoping without crutches. I just wasn’t actually anywhere close to being able to get off of them. Then the next goal was to be able to throw on the field the 15th. It’s really just for me to be able to feel more normal,” Rodgers said.
“Just to be back around the guys was incredible. To be on the field without crutches, to be able to be on the sidelines, to be on the headset, it made me feel like I wasn’t so separated from the team. Really thankful for that. Obviously just about anything I do or say there’s some sort of reaction. That’s kind of where I’m at right now, and I appreciate it. But that was a special moment for me to be able to feel a little bit more normal.”
