Last offseason saw Dallas wait until seemingly the last possible moments with the contract extensions of CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. In the case of Prescott, the Cowboys did not announce the deal until just before kickoff of their Week 1 game in Cleveland. Many have wondered if something similar could play out with Micah Parsons.

Jerry Jones has stated he senses no urgency to get the Parsons deal done anytime soon. He wants to get everything right rather than potentially accelerate the timeline and mess something up.

Even so, ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes Parsons will have his fresh contract before Dallas begins the 2025 season. He says too much money is at stake for Parsons to be playing football without one, leading the two sides to an eventual agreement.

“I would say that, eventually, both sides will figure out that deal and get it done,” Schefter said via Shan & RJ on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan. “That would be my guess. There’s so much money involved and Dallas is going to want to keep him, he’s going to want to stay.

“When you’re talking about $40+ million a year, or whatever the number is, why are you ever stepping foot on a football field until that deal is done? To me, they’ll figure out a way to get that deal done because the stakes are just too great not to.”

Dallas does not have the exact 2025 schedule in front of them quite yet. But the Cowboys got a preview of what the defense looks like without Parsons last season due to an injury. The difference was night and day once No. 11 got back on the field.

Seeing Parsons potentially miss regular season time due to a contract extension would be a big blow. But somehow, some way, the Cowboys get deals done just when you think time is about to expire.

When Schefter says “stepping foot on a football field,” that could easily mean a practice field too. Lamb held out of training camp when working through his contract. Prescott was a little different, still being out there with the Cowboys.

There is still a long way between now and training camp. If recent history tells us anything, there is likely not an agreement between the two before the Cowboys head to Oxnard. But Schefter does appear confident a deal will get completed before the regular season begins.
