Adam Schefter blasts the idea Dallas Cowboys could trade Dak Prescott, draft Shedeur Sanders: 'This is fantasy football'
Deion Sanders said earlier this month that he is only interested in coaching in the NFL if he can coach his sons. With Coach Prime admitting recently that he has interest in the Dallas Cowboys job, that has led to speculation that perhaps Dallas could trade Dak Prescott to the Titans for the No. 1 pick, allowing the Cowboys to draft Shedeur Sanders.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter put that talk to rest on Thursday, blasting the possibility of the trade actually taking place.
“These people that have suggested trading Dak to the Titans for the No. 1 pick, like, this is fantasy football. There’s too much money. You can’t do this,” Schefter said.
Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million contract ahead of the 2024 season. The cap hit for the 2025 season is nearly $90 million, per Spotrac.
Schefter is well aware of comments Deion Sanders made about only wanting to coach his sons in the NFL, but that statement was made before the Cowboys job became open.

“Deion himself has said the only draw to the NFL would be that if he got to go coach Shedeur,” Schefter said. “But I think nobody said to him, ‘Well, what about the idea of Jerry Jones?’ Because I think he views the relationship he has with Jerry Jones and who Jones is as something that would be attractive enough to get him to leave Colorado, potentially, and not have to coach his son.”
Schefter added that he believes Deion Sanders is interested in coaching the Cowboys and Dak Prescott and shared that he feels like Dak Prescott would want to play for Deion Sanders, too.
This is the one exception to Sanders’ wish to only coach his sons, per Schefter.
“Like, he would go to Dallas and be thrilled to coach Dak Prescott,” Schefter said of Deion Sanders. “And Dak Prescott, the guy’s got so much equity and respect built up, I haven’t asked Dak this, but I guarantee you Dak would be really happy.”
It will be interesting to see how everything plays out in the coming days and weeks. However, it seems clear that if Deion Sanders is indeed coaching the Cowboys in 2025, his quarterback will be Dak Prescott and not Shedeur Sanders. Prescott is, of course, returning from injury after missing most of the 2024 season.
