ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported teams could inquire about trading for Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin, but acknowledged he doesn’t expect it to happen.

In fact, Tomlin has a no-trade clause in his contract. This is on the heels of Schefter reporting teams are gearing up to inquire about the longtime Pittsburgh coach.

In fact, someone already made a call. Unfortunately, Schefter either didn’t know or reveal what team made the call.

“We talked about it on Sunday Countdown and raised the idea that a couple of teams were pondering, and I think one team actually looked into it and uncovered the fact that his contract has a no trade clause in it,” Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. “So even if Pittsburgh wanted to trade him, which we’ve gotten zero indication that it does, they couldn’t do that without his permission, because he’s got a no trade clause in his contract.

“That doesn’t stop teams, whether it’s Mike Tomlin or Kevin O’Connell or Kyle Shanahan or whoever, to call up a team and say, ‘Would your organization have any interest in listening to conversations?’ And Pittsburgh doesn’t seem to be interested. Minnesota doesn’t seem to be interested, San Francisco doesn’t seem interested. You can want anybody you want, but there has to be somebody that’s willing to engage. And right now, currently, none of those teams are. Now, could something change in the off season? Sure, but right now, none of them are.”

After going 10-3, Pittsburgh lost their final four games of the season to fall to the AFC Wild Card at the Baltimore Ravens this weekend.

Tomlin is under contract through the 2027 season, based on a contract extension signed in 2024. However, the Steelers’ coach downplayed the meaning of that extension.

“To be quite honest with you, it just means I don’t have to field questions about it,” Tomlin said. “I’ve seen more days than I am going to see on this job, man. I’m focused on 2024 and have been and that’s my mindset … Again, I don’t focus on what’s in my rearview. If there’s a secret, the secret is I’m focused on the challenges and tasks at hand and not my resume. I could care less about my resume.”

Tomlin’s been the head coach in Pittsburgh since 2007, going 183-107-2 to date. He won Super Bowl XLIII during his second year as head coach and led the Steelers to Super Bowl XLV two years later.

Despite eight playoff appearances since then, not including this year’s upcoming postseason, Tomlin hasn’t been back to a Super Bowl and made the AFC Championship just once (2016), a loss to the New England Patriots.
