After the Dallas Cowboys were shocked by the Green Bay Packers, there has been a lot of debate about the future of Mike McCarthy and questions about whether or not owner Jerry Jones should make a change. That includes possibly bringing in Bill Belichick.

On Get Up the day after the playoff loss, panelists debated the idea, with Rex Ryan arguing that Belichick wouldn’t want to give Jones the control he has in Dallas. However, NFL insider Adam Schefter pushed back on that idea.

“Bill Belichick wants to coach football,” Adam Schefter said. “If it happened to be in Dallas, if Dallas made the move and Jerry said to Bill, ‘I wanted you to come coach the Cowboys,’ I think Bill would be good with the setup that would be there. I don’t think he’s going to go in and say, ‘Well you all step aside, I’m gonna run this whole thing, or I’m not coming.’ I don’t think it’ll be like that.”

To prove his point, Schefter pointed to the end of Belichick’s tenure in New England. There, where he had the final say in personnel decisions, he admitted publicly he was willing to give that up and make other concessions.

“Listen, what did Bill Belichick say exactly one week ago in the press conference in New England? One week ago he told the reporters there, ‘I don’t have to make all the personnel decisions. I can give up some control.’ He told that to them. That was before they parted ways this week. If an opportunity like Dallas were to come along, and he were interested in it, I think he would be willing to collaborate in any way it took.”
