Adam Schefter: Falcons head coach search 'wide open' ahead of interview with Texans OC Bobby Slowik
Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik will interview for the Atlanta Falcons’ head coaching vacancy Sunday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Schefter added that Atlanta’s head coaching search is “wide-open,” with several additional in-person interviews being scheduled for this week. Notably, the Falcons are scheduled to meet with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick met with team owner Arthur Blank twice in the past week.
Slowik is the 12th candidate to interview for the vacancy. He was among Atlanta’s first interview requests back on Jan. 11, and his schedule is suddenly lighter following Houston’s 34-10 AFC Divisional Round defeat to the Baltimore Ravens Saturday.
Slowik, 36, has just one season as an offensive coordinator under his belt. Prior to joining the Texans, Slowik spent six years as an assistant for the San Francisco 49ers under head coach Kyle Shanahan. Led by rookie quarterback CJ Stroud, the Texans finished the regular season 12th in total offense (342.4 yards per game) and 14th in points per game (22.2). One year removed from picking second in the NFL Draft, Houston went 10-7 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

“The offense has done a really nice job all throughout the year, starting with Bobby, as he’s led the offense through many different guys being in,” head coach DeMeco Ryans said earlier this month. “It’s not always the way you would like to have it. But he has found a way to put our playmakers in a position to make plays.”
Falcons interviewing Bobby Slowik, multitude of other candidates for head coaching vacancy
Blank has put no timetable on a decision to name the Falcons’ next head coach.
“I also want to be clear on this: There is no timetable,” Blank said. “The only timetable is to do this correctly. We’ll take our time. Be thoughtful, do all of the interviews. Be respectful, make sure we have a full diverse set of candidates that we’re considering in every way. And give each and every one of them an opportunity to express their vision for our football team. For our franchise, for the roster, where we are and where we expect to go.
“We’ll take as much time as we need to do that and do it correctly.”
