Adam Schefter provides latest on Aaron Rodgers, whether he'll play in 2025

One of the biggest remaining storylines in the NFL this offseason is where Aaron Rodgers will ultimately land. The four-time NFL MVP has yet to make a decision on his playing future.
It’s possible Rodgers could retire. Or he could play for another year or two still.
“Well the Pittsburgh Steelers know what it’s like to be Aaron Rodgers, because they’re in the dark right now about what he’s going to do,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Get Up on Thursday morning. “And there are a lot of people around the league who wonder if Aaron Rodgers is even going to play. We have not heard from Aaron Rodgers himself to know one way or another.”
Minnesota is one team that has admitted to having conversations with Rodgers recently, keeping open the possibility that he could land there. But Pittsburgh remains the presumptive favorite for his services. The Steelers have lost quarterbacks Justin Fields (New York Jets) and Russell Wilson (New York Giants) in recent weeks. That leaves them with a gaping hole on the roster.
“What we do know is that the Pittsburgh Steelers have been interested in Aaron Rodgers for weeks now, and for weeks they have not gotten any clarity from him,” Schefter said. “The two sides met on Friday for about six hours. He met with their coaches. The two sides talked about what it would be like to work together. But there still is no answer about what Aaron Rodgers wants to do.”
While Rodgers has been vocal off the field, it’s hard to argue with his production on it. After a season in which he tore his Achilles on one of the first plays of the year, Rodgers had a nice bounce-back campaign in 2024.

He finished the year throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, against 11 interceptions. It’s not quite the 11 consecutive years with single-digit interceptions he had at one point in his career, but it’s still competitive.
And with some key offseason acquisitions like DK Metcalf, the Steelers are looking to be competitive in a major way. Aaron Rodgers could help. If he even plays.
“There are people who believe that he may not play this year,” Schefter said. “There are people who believe he’s waiting to see if something might open down the line in Minnesota with the Vikings. But nobody knows for sure what Aaron Rodgers’ gameplan is, and for the time being the Steelers are in the dark. They know what it feels like.”
