Adam Schefter provides ‘positive’ update on Colts QB Anthony Richardson
Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson was impressive in his debut Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, late in the game, trying to mount a comeback, Richardson was injured while running toward the goal line.
Richardson was forced to miss the remainder of the game, with Gardner Minshew filling his shoes. Ultimately, it was a loss, but concern mounted for Richardson.
Luckily, NFL insider Adam Schefter was able to give a positive update on Anthony Richardson’s health during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.
“The initial reports on Anthony Richardson [are] positive,” Schefter said. “Bone bruise. Playing on that field [is] not easy. He’s got to learn to, somehow, someway, try to take a few less hits than he took yesterday.”
It was a 31-21 loss for the Colts in Richardson’s first start. Despite that, there were a lot of positive things to build on. Richardson was decisive throughout the game. He rushed for a touchdown and threw for another. He also led the team in rushing.
McAfee pointed out that the hit at the end of the game wasn’t the only big hit that Richardson took during the game. There was another one early in the game where he was slow to get up.
“Next play, next play,” McAfee said. “Safety comes shooting through. He stands right in the pocket, throws the ball around the guy, and takes a massive shot right to his face. It’s like, ‘Okay, he’s good.’ Then, at the end of the game, he gets hit again, he’s hurt, it’s like, ‘This dude needs to be healthy because he can be electrifying and he also has the greatest spike in football right now.'”

If there is any change that Richardson may need to consider for the future it’s to slide more and take fewer unnecessary hits.
Schefter added that the bone bruise happened before the hit at the end of the game and the final hit aggravated it. Luckily, Schefter added that Richardson is okay moving forward.
