ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes Russell Wilson could very well return to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, after conversations with the quarterback.

The Steelers seemingly have a decision to make: Wilson or Justin Fields. Wilson ended up being the starter and led Pittsburgh to the playoffs, a Wild Card loss.

While he’s seemingly in the twilight of his career, Wilson could actually be with Pittsburgh moving forward.

“I was with Russell on Friday, and I’m just telling you, the tone that I got from him is entirely different than the reports that are out there, and we’ll see what winds up happening, whether or not he’s back there,” Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. “But I think he feels like there’s definitely a chance he’s going to be back there, like he’s having conversations with the organization about the future and where it’s going to go. Now, again, there’s still a lot that’s going to play out here. But I think he definitely thinks that he may be back in Pittsburgh.”

Another option seems to be the Las Vegas Raiders. New head coach Pete Carroll was already asked about a potential reunion with his former Seattle Seahawks QB.

“It’s so early and we’re just in the midst of trying to find the puzzle pieces, not even putting them together yet, so I can’t even say. Free agency hasn’t come yet,” Carroll said. “That’s the first competitive opportunity that will occur and then the Draft is coming, and we’ll have that opportunity to do things. I can’t tell you right now. I could guess but it would just be a guess.

Russell Wilson back to the Steelers?

“But I promise you, if you’re a real competitor, you’re not letting options get away from you. So, we’re gonna consider every option as a possibility and we’re going to go after it very aggressively with intent and hopefully a sense and a feeling that people want to be part of this thing.”

Wilson, 36, was under center for the majority of Carroll’s 14-year tenure with the Seahawks. The two were a winning partnership, going 104-53-1 in 10 seasons together. Seattle won a Super Bowl in 2013 and appeared in another the following year.

Wilson, however, was traded to the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster deal during the 2022 offseason. The Athletic reported in February 2023 that Wilson requested the team fire Carroll and general manager John Schneider prior to the trade. Wilson later denied the report in a tweet, saying “I never wanted [Carroll or Schneider] fired.”

Wilson is coming off his first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers following his release from the Broncos. He finished his 13th season in the NFL throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions on 63.7% passing.
