Adam Schefter rips Anthony Richardson for exiting game due to being tired
Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Anthony Richardson exited Sunday’s game against the Texans during the third quarter, not with an injury, but because he was tired.
“Man, tired, I ain’t gonna lie,” Anthony Richardson said. “That was a lot of running right there that I did, and I didn’t think I was going to be able to go in there the next play. So I just told Shane [Steichen] I needed a break right there.”
Needless to say, Richardson has received plenty of backlash over the past couple of days. Pat McAfee went after him pretty good on his show on Monday, before welcoming on ESPN insider Adam Schefter.
Schefty was asked for his reaction and what people around the league were saying about Anthony Richardson subbing himself out of the game.
“It came up in some conversations this morning. Nobody that I spoke to can recall that ever happening before,” Adam Schefter said. “Here’s the amazing thing about that, is that you can tap out, and you can say when it comes up, I don’t know, ‘My stomach’ or ‘I had a cramp.’ … ‘I felt something in my knee, my shoulder.’
“Whatever. Like, for you to say, ‘I’m tired,’ you can’t say that. You can’t say that. That’s your quarterback. That’s your quarterback.”

Anthony Richardson is in his second season in the NFL after being drafted in the first round by the Colts out of Florida.
He has had an up-and-down career thus far, that has included being slowed down by injuries.
Richardson struggled against the Texans on Sunday in a 23-20 loss, going 10 of 32 passing for 175 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also rushed for 45 yards.
The Colts were trailing 20-10 and facing a third-and-goal from Houston’s 23 when Richardson exited the game. He returned for the following drive and led the Colts down the field for a touchdown.
Indianapolis got the ball back twice in the fourth quarter while trailing by 3 with a chance to tie or take the lead, but they were unable to capitalize.
