After his departure from New England, Bill Belichick began his search for a new job. One team, the Atlanta Falcons, has consistently been mentioned in relation to Belichick and has even completed an interview with the decorated head coach.

While making an appearance on Get Up, NFL insider Adam Schefter shared an update on the latest surrounding Bill Belichick.

“He’s a coaching free agent and the one meeting that we’ve known he has taken so far is with the Atlanta Falcons,” Adam Schefter said. “And what we know about the Falcons is the Falcons’ owner, Arthur Blank, has taken multiple repeated big swings at high profile coaches and never really landed one. He tried to hire Nick Saban a few different times. He tried to hire Joe Gibbs. He tried to hire Bill Parcells. He’s tried to hire a lot of decorated coaches. None is more decorated than Bill Belichick, who he’s already met with.”

There is still time for change, as Schefter noted by bringing up Philadelphia. However, for now, it’s clear that Atlanta is interested in Belichick, and with the information currently in hand, that makes the Falcons seem like his current landing spot.

“So, that to me would seem to be the team that seems most interested in Bill Belichick, unless there’s a job like the Eagles that opens and we’re still waiting to hear and there’s nothing there yet. So, Bill’s a coaching free agent. He headlines the list. Atlanta is the one team we know is in play.”

The Falcons are coming off a 7-10 season. It was Arthur Smith‘s third year as Atlanta’s coach and it was his third straight 7-10 finish. Now, the franchise is clearly looking to make a massive splash with their next hire and turn things around for the struggling team.

Former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan weighs in on Atlanta’s potential interest in Bill Belichick

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan lost to Bill Belichick and the Patriots in the Super Bowl. With that game in mind, he shared his thoughts on Bill Belichick possibly coming to Atlanta.

“Here’s the thing, there’s a lot of baggage that comes with that because of the Super Bowl. It’s an awkward thing. But if you look at the organization, the owner, Arthur Blank, getting older and anxious to win right now. And you look at the roster… they’re built to win right now. The defense plays good football, they’ve got an excellent offensive line, and good skill positions, but they’ve got to figure out the quarterback,” Ryan said.

“I think Bill Belichick makes sense if they get a veteran guy. If you’re drafting young, then you go with a younger coach, someone who’s going to be there longer. But if you’re getting a veteran guy, then I think he makes sense in Atlanta.”
