Adidas fires back at Davante Adams' reaction to Garrett Wilson 'Jumpman' catch on TNF
Jets star wideout Garrett Wilson made one of the most spectacular grabs of the past few NFL seasons on Thursday Night Football. Not only was it a pivotal touchdown grab, but Wilson made the Jumpman pose when he hauled in the spectacular grab. Following the game, Jets teammate Davante Adams joked that Wilson was going to sign with the Jumpman brand.
Adidas definitely heard that and decided to fire back. They issued their own press release on Friday evening, in joking fashion. “Following Garett Wilson’s ‘catch of the year’ last night in East Rutherford, New Jersey, adidas releases response to questions about his future partnership plans:
“He can jump, man! Garrett’s not going anywhere.”
Here is the official tweet below from Adidas football.
There is perhaps no other catch in NFL history that’s as perfect for the Jumpman brand as Wilson’s on Thursday Night Football. It was nearly identical to the Jumpman logo and plenty of different users on social media made graphics of it. It’s not surprising for Adidas to make a quick response.
Wilson went up and pulled down a pass from Aaron Rodgers with one hand and somehow managed to stay in bounds. The officials initially ruled him out, but replay review showed his shin hit the ground before his knee – meaning it was a touchdown, giving the Jets a 14-10 lead.
There were shades of Beckham’s catch 2015 catch at MetLife Stadium when he reached back with one hand and hauled in a catch for the ages. Wilson’s was similar, though he seemed to channel the Jordan “Jumpman” logo.

Prime Video rules analyst Terry McAulay explained how Wilson managed to stay in bounds. By rule, the shin hit in bounds before the knee got to the white line, which meant the former Ohio State star did enough for the play to be a touchdown.
“That shin clearly touches in bounds before the knee goes out of bounds,” McAulay said, noting how impressive the slow-mo shot was. “That puts him in bounds with control. Touchdown.”
Garrett Wilson’s catch was a spark the Jets offense needed. They trailed the Texans most of the night until the play, which put New York in front for the first time. Wilson’s exceptional play helped fuel the Jets to a 21-13 win over the Texans on Thursday Night Football. He finished with nine catches for 90 receiving yards and two touchdowns. That play will forever cement him in NFL history, no question about it. It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the Jets’ 2024 season plays out.
