AJ Allmendinger threatens to wreck Ryan Blaney after getting spun out at Indianapolis
Late in Stage 2, AJ Allmendinger was spun around due to contact with Ryan Blaney and it did not sit well with the Kaulig Racing driver. Allmendinger was livid after the incident. On a NASCAR Sunday when he was supposed to compete for a win, it has been a struggle.
AJ Allmendinger won the pole for the Xfinity Series, but couldn’t win the race itself. Then he got going in the Cup Series race and it has been nothing but trouble from the start. He has been a non-factor. Not what the road course ace wanted this weekend with the Playoffs on the line.
After this spin, Allmendinger hopped on the radio and vowed to wreck Ryan Blaney if he got close to him again. That could be scary for the 12-team.
Things could be going better for AJ Allmendinger. At least he isn’t his teammate Justin Haley who got wrecked on Lap 2 and has limped along all afternoon. However, considering how the other bubble drivers have performed, it can’t be much worse for Dinger and his playoff hopes.
Daniel Suárez and Michael McDowell have had career-best days as far as points and position are concerned. Both drivers and Chase Elliott are all in contention for the win.

AJ Allmendinger is running out of time
Right now it really appears that it will have to be a win at Watkins Glen for AJ Allmendinger to make the postseason. He simply has run out of options and as far as points are concerned, he’s not going to beat out these other drivers, either.
As his competitors outperform him at the Indy Road Course, it has to be difficult. This return to full-time Cup Series racing hasn’t gone how Allmendinger had hoped. Maybe he sticks around for 2024, or perhaps he has other plans in mind. We know he can compete in the Xfinity Series, but it hasn’t translated to Cup.
He’s going to watch, at least a lap down, as drivers like Suarez and McDowell make the most of this opportunity. If that doesn’t light a fire under him and his team to get next week perfect, I’m not sure what will.
AJ Allmendinger had a goal today to compete for a win and it just has not panned out that way. Even with his previous experience, this race has proven to be too physical for Allmendinger to handle.
