Ohio State may have won the national championship less than 24 hours ago but it’s never too early to look at next season. Week 1 is a loaded slate, the Tallahassee hosting one of the more anticipated matchups. Florida State will welcome Alabama to town in what should be a fun Doak Campbell Stadium environment.

An early point spread for the game has already been released by the folks at FanDuel. Alabama is favored by just over a touchdown at 7.5 points. If you want the Crimson Tide on the money line, you can get it at -285 while Florida State is +230. The total has been set at 51.5.

There is still a lot of unknown about these two, especially around seven months away from kickoff.

Florida State is coming off a season they would like to forget, only winning two games. One of those was against an FCS opponent too in Charleston Southern. Mike Norvell‘s program was at its highest in 2023 but came crashing down in 2024.

Changes are certainly coming as the roster is being reworked. Florida State has brought in 16 players via the NCAA transfer portal thus far. None bigger than Thomas Castellanos, the former Boston College quarterback. He brings experience inside the ACC with a good amount of success.

Getting better at the line of scrimmage has been a key point for Norvell too. Eight of the transfers either play on the offensive line, defensive line, or are an edge rusher.

Moving to Alabama, they are coming off a disappointing year of their own just in a different way. Three regular season losses appeared for the first time since 2010. Kalen DeBoer started his tenure strong but stumbled against supposed inferior opponents.

A quarterback battle will take headlines in Tuscaloosa during the offseason. Ty Simpson is considered the favorite, while Austin Mack is somebody DeBoer brought with him from Washington. Former Five-Star Plus+ product Keelon Russell will bring a lot of hype with him out of Duncanville (TX) as well.

Even with the quarterback questions, oddsmakers like Alabama early on. For now, the game is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30. Neither the time nor television information has yet been released by the ACC but it’s likely to be on an ESPN network of some sort.
