Alex Bowman threw phone in pool after learning of Roval disqualification
How would you react if you learned breaking news about yourself from social media? Well, Alex Bowman got to live that experience last week. After the Roval, Bowman was disqualified which took him out of the NASCAR Playoffs as well.
Alex Bowman learned that he had lost his Cup Series ride once, via Twitter. Call it whatever you want now, but he had a similar story happen again.
After figuring out about the DQ on his phone, he threw it into the pool knowing that he was going to be overrun with messages. While Bowman’s phone still works, but in the days since he now has a roof leak on his house and a cracked window on his car.
Tough week to be Bowman.
Jeff Gluck of The Athletic shared Bowman’s story on Twitter/X. How much bad luck can one guy have?
As someone dealing with roof issues of my own right now, I feel Alex Bowman’s pain on that one. But I won’t ever know what it’s like to be eliminated from the NASCAR Playoffs in the worst way possible like he does.
Despite having one of the best postseason performances in the field, Bowman is out. Joey Logano gets to make another Round of 8 appearance. That gives that team a whole new life with tracks like Las Vegas, Homestead, and Martinsville ahead.

This also had consequences for Hendrick Motorsports.
Alex Bowman DQ denies Hendrick history
In the 40th year as a team, Hendrick Motorsports has had a ton of great moments. William Byron winning the Daytona 500. Byron leading a Hendrick 1-2-3 at Martinsville earlier this season. Kyle Larson’s Double attempt and all of his wins this season.
Had Alex Bowman not been disqualified last week, Hendrick would have made more history. The team has never had four drivers in the Round of 8. They would have, but now with Bowman out, that accolade will have to wait at least another season.
At this point, there isn’t much that Hendrick Motorsports has not accomplished. But having half of the Round of 8 would have been major. Hendrick and Joe Gibbs Racing are in a race to see who can put all four of their drivers in the Championship 4.
Alex Bowman had one of the worst beats in NASCAR history last week with postrace inspection. Having a car underweight is tough. There isn’t much you can do to argue against it. Let’s hope his luck gets better moving forward.
