Allen Lazard admits he got impatient waiting for Aaron Rodgers to join him with Jets
Allen Lazard jumped at the chance to sign with the Jets, knowing that Aaron Rodgers, his Packer’s teammate, was soon to follow him from Green Bay to New York.
After all, Lazard had inside info. His signing came a day before Rodgers revealed that he intended to play for the Jets. He announced it all on The Pat McAfee Show. But although Aaron Rodgers promised Allen Lazard they’d be together on the field again, the receiver had doubts. After all, it took the two teams roughly six weeks to make a trade.
“There was probably an eight-hour period of time where I was like, ‘What the f**k, bro?’ ” Lazard told reporters this week during a media availability in training camp.
“And he was like, ‘It’s going to happen.’ I was like, ‘All right.’ We obviously had a very deep conversation and talked about the possibilities of where he would go, where I would go. Not to say that him going here was the only reason why I came here. Or me coming here was the only reason why he didn’t want to retire or stay in Green Bay, per se. But I knew he was doing everything he could do. A lot of the hype around, ‘Why is it not happening?’ Well, he had no control. He would’ve done it way before then.”
Allen Lazard, Aaron Rodgers worked out together in California
Still, Allen Lazard said he’d pester Aaron Rodgers about when the trade would unfold. The two worked out together in California. Rodgers already had cut ties with the Packers. But why was it taking so long, given how emphatic Rodgers was when he announced for the Jets.

“I was seeing him at least two, three times a week, so maybe if I wasn’t there I would’ve been a little more worried,” Lazard said. “But I was pretty confident.”
Lazard maneuvered free agency pretty well. He signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Jets. And it turned out to be the largest given to a wide receiver for this free agency cycle. That’s even with big names like Odell Beckham Jr and DeAndre Hopkins on the market. He also has a long-time connection with Rodgers built during their time with the Packers. Lazard caught 168 passes for 2,229 yards and 20 touchdowns during his five years as a starter.
So what’s he expecting with the Jets?
“Super Bowl,” said Lazard, who now plays for a team that hasn’t been to the Super Bowl since 1969.
“That’s always been the main objective since I was 5 years old playing the game. That’s never changed. My goal … wasn’t to be the highest paid in an offseason, it wasn’t to make a set amount of money. My dreams have always been to leave people with a memory and impact them in a positive way.”
