Allen Robinson breaks down what kind of role he expects to see in first year with Steelers
Catching passes alongside Diontae Johnson and George Pickens, Allen Robinson fully expects the Pittsburgh Steelers to field one of the best receiving corps in the NFL in 2023.
Robinson, acquired from the Los Angeles Rams for a 2023 seventh-round draft pick in April, told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on a recent edition of “The Rich Eisen Show” he believes their skillsets will mesh well together in offensive coordinator Matt Canada’s offense.
“I think the most unique thing is that our receiver room between me, George and Diontae — we all have different skillsets,” Robinson said. “I think that’s something that bodes very well when you have guys that have different skillsets that can play different spots and move around and different things like that.
“For me, I’ve been able to come in and just kind of learn the whole landscape of the offense, you know that’s plan A, B, F whatever that may be just so I can be utilized in whatever way they need me and in many different ways. So, for me that’s just kind of where I’ve been.”

Robinson, 29, spent four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before signing with the Chicago Bears on a three-year, $42 million deal. He served as Chicago’s top wideout for four seasons, racking up 3,561 yards and 18 touchdowns in 57 games.

Robinson became a free agent after the 2021 season, and quickly inked a three-year, $46.5 million deal with Los Angeles. Brought in to help replace the production of Odell Beckham Jr. and Robert Woods, Robinson’s one-year stint with the Rams was a dud as he hauled in 33 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns.
Limited to just 10 games due to foot surgery, Robinson is beginning to knock the rust off in his recovery. Robinson’s main focus is “getting back to myself,” and helping the Steelers improve upon their 9-8 campaign from 2022.
“For me, honestly, you know, the main thing has just been learning the offense and getting back to myself,” Robinson told Corey Crisan of DK Pittsburgh Sports this week. “That has preceded everything else. The transition and the move and things like that, I’ve had people help me with, so that hasn’t been too much of an issue. The main thing since the trade happened was I wanted to get back to Allen Robinson on the field. That was the most important thing before that. That preceded everything else.
“So, with that being my mindset and my focus I’ve been able to get the ball rolling and to be able to stack blocks and continue to be able to move forward through this process over the past month and a half or so, which is what I planned on doing. Now it’s just continuing to push things forward and moving this train forward, and I’m looking forward to training camp.”
