Less than two minutes into the Lions’ 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders on Saturday, Detroit cornerback Amik Robertson broke his arm. On Sunday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero provided an update on Robertson’s condition.

“Amik Robertson underwent surgery for the broken humerus he suffered Saturday night and all went well, per source,” Pelissero wrote on X. “Robertson, who was having his best season, is expected to be ready for offseason workouts.”

The injury occurred when Robertson attempted to tackle Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin on the Lions’ second defensive play of the game. Robertson joined the Lions this past offseason as an unrestricted free agent after spending his first four professional seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Robertson was pivotal to the Lions’ success this season, recording 50 tackles, eight pass breakups and a career-high three forced fumbles. Amik Robertson has one year remaining on his contract with the Lions.

A painful night for the Detroit Lions

Unfortunately for the Lions, Robertson’s absence was obvious. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels picked apart Detroit’s secondary, finishing the game with 299 passing yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception.

Dyami Brown was Daniels’ favorite target against the Lions. Brown hauled in a team-high six receptions for 98 yards, boosting the Commanders to a shocking 45-31 win.

Boasting a 15-2 regular season record, the Lions were the No. 1 seed in the NFC entering the NFL Playoffs. However, the team will now be forced to return to the drawing board after committing five turnovers in a lackluster performance against the Commanders.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell was emotional while talking about the loss during the postgame press conference.

“It’s hard when you lose, and you lose these games, man,” Campbell said as he fought back tears. “It’s like the players, what they put into it. A lot of people don’t know what they go through. You have to get up, body’s beat to s—, mentally stay locked in and do those things, so long season.”

Lions quarterback Jared Goff echoed Campbell’s frustration after the game.

“I’m still kind of processing this. I’m going to have some hard nights coming up unfortunately. It’s hard. I wish I could give you guys a better answer right now,” Goff said. “It’s disappointing. It’s hard. We had everything we wanted. Home field advantage, the fans were incredible and unfortunately, we just let it slip out of our hands.”
