Andre Drummond ejected for potential Victor Wembanyama flop, both technicals rescinded after wild sequence
A second-quarter scuffle between Victor Wembanyama and Andre Drummond led to confusing sequence in Monday evening’s contest between the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers.
After Drummond was issued a technical foul for shoving Wembanyama the play before, the pair again found themselves tangled up the next possession. Although there appeared to be little contact from Drummond, Wembanyama fell to the ground and Drummond was issued a second technical foul and received an ejection.
Drummond made his way back to the locker room, where he figured to spend the remainder of the night. However, a review of the play later resulted in the referees rescinding the technical foul call and allowing the 76ers big man to return.
Additionally, the officials ruled that Wembanyama had flopped on the play and issued him a technical foul instead. However, the back-and-forth decision-making didn’t end there.
After Tyrese Maxey had already shot the technical free throw for Wembanyama’s flopping penalty, the referees gathered to make another change. Another review determined that Wembanyama had in fact not flopped on the play, taking away the free throw and allowing play to resume with no fouls on either player.

Although it certainly created some uncertainty in the game, it’s good to see the officiating crew did its best to come to the correct conclusion on the call. Philadelphia took a 48-45 lead into halftime as both teams will try to create separation in the second half.
Joel Embiid ejected for going crazy on official over Victor Wembanyama charge call
The scuffle between Victor Wembanyama and Andre Drummond wasn’t the only heated sequence in Monday’s night’s game. A few plays later, 76ers center Joel Embiid was ejected after a series of events led to a pair of technical fouls in the second quarter.
Embiid had the ball at the top of the key and drove into the chest of Spurs star Wembanyama. A charge was called on the play, which Embiid did not agree with. This led to him confronting the official past midcourt, 30 feet away from the original play, to argue his case.
He became animated from there, leading to his ejection with 2:59 left in the first half. The 76ers trailed the Spurs 37-35 when he left the game.
Embiid finished the game with nine points on 2 of 8 shooting with three rebounds.
