Angel Reese didn’t want to hear anything about the 2028 Olympics or her playing on the team following the latest gold medal.

An article from ESPN pondered who would be on the ‘28 team right after the ‘24 captured the latest gold medal for Team USA at the Olympics. But Reese, who could very well be on that squad in four years, dismissed the idea.

Well at least, for now.

“Let’s just congratulate these women & let them enjoy this moment! Leave me out of this until my time comes!,” Reese wrote on Twitter.

ESPN’s Michael Voepel projected the following players to make the 2028 Olympic Team: A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Napheese Collier, Aliyah Boston, Cameron Brink, Angel Reese, Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu, Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins.

It’s clear Reese didn’t mean anything derogatory towards the projection and wanted to shine the spotlight on the current team. It includes a handful of players who are in the twilight of their careers, such as Diana Taurasi.

Of course, Reese was a part of the Team WNBA group that defeated Team USA 117-109 during the 2024 WNBA All-Star game. After that game, Reese discussed her aspirations to play for Team USA in the Olympics in the future.

“One day I want to be a Team USA member,” Reese told ESPN’s Holly Rowe on the court postgame. “One day I want to be with that team, so it was an honor for me to come out and play. Coming off the bench, I just wanted to bring as much energy as I could.”

Reese scored 12 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for a double-double in her first All-Star game during just 18 minutes on the court.

“I’m so excited for this league,” Reese continued. “It’s super competitive and being able to be a rookie out here [at the All-Star game] — and I hope there are many more times I’m out here.”

After the game, Reese said that she was going to enjoy some “me time,” during the WNBA’s hiatus while Team USA was in Paris. Upon their return, the Sky will be the first team back in action after the multi-week break.

Reese will match up with Brittney Griner, a member of Team USA, when Chicago battles the Phoenix Mercury on Aug. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET live inside Wintrust Arena as the WNBA begins its back stretch of the 2024 season.
