The United States won its eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal in Paris on Sunday after defeating France 67-66 in the women’s basketball final.

Fans from across the basketball world tuned in for the nail-biting finish — including Chicago Sky star Angel Reese. After the game, rookie All-Star congratulated her fellow WNBA players for making history at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“what a GAME,” she wrote.

A’ja Wilson scored 21 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked four shots during the contest that came down to a French foot on the 3-point line at the final buzzer. It’s good for the team’s 61st consecutive win in Olympic play and are undefeated since earning bronze in 1992.

Of course, Reese was a part of the Team WNBA group that defeated Team USA 117-109 during the 2024 WNBA All-Star game. After that game, Reese discussed her aspirations to play for Team USA in the Olympics in the future.

“One day I want to be a Team USA member,” Reese told ESPN’s Holly Rowe on the court postgame. “One day I want to be with that team, so it was an honor for me to come out and play. Coming off the bench, I just wanted to bring as much energy as I could.”

Ultimately coming away with the victory, it didn’t surprise Reese to see her WNBA All-Star squad take down Team USA. To her, the main goal of this exhibition was to get the Olympians ready for Paris — and it seems to have paid off given Team USA is headed back home with gold.

Reese scored 12 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for a double-double in her first All-Star game during just 18 minutes on the court.

“I’m so excited for this league,” Reese continued. “It’s super competitive and being able to be a rookie out here [at the All-Star game] — and I hope there are many more times I’m out here.”

After the game, Reese said that she was going to enjoy some “me time,” during the WNBA’s hiatus while Team USA was in Paris. Upon their return, the Sky will be the first team back in action after the multi-week break.

Reese will match up with Brittney Griner, a member of Team USA, when Chicago battles the Phoenix Mercury on Aug. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET live inside Wintrust Arena as the WNBA begins its back stretch of the 2024 season.
