The Dallas Mavericks just added Anthony Davis to the roster after trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, and he’s now dealing with a serious injury. NBA reporter Marc Stein revealed that Davis could miss a significant amount of time due to him injuring his adductor.

“It is feared that the Mavericks’ newly acquired Anthony Davis will be sidelined for an indefinite period … with the severity of his adductor injury sustained Saturday still being determined,” Stein wrote on X.

According to ESPN, Davis could miss multiple weeks of action. The former Kentucky Wildcats star suffered a left adductor strain during Saturday’s game against the Houston Rockets. Davis recorded 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks in 31 minutes.

After the game, Davis said he was “very confident” the injury would not set him back for a long period of time. “Just the leg got tight, like a little spasm,” Davis said Saturday. “Just came back and tried to get it loose and everything. Obviously, dealing with the ab strain still, so just tried to get it loose. It wouldn’t really loosen up and let go, but it’s nothing serious. I’m fine.”

Anthony Davis played with ‘a lot of emotions’ in Mavericks debut

Davis is with his third team since joining the NBA in 2012. He was a member of the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans from 2012-2019. Following the 2018-19 season, Davis was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers and helped the team win a title the following season. In his career, Davis has been selected an All-Star 10 times named to the All-NBA Team five times and was elected to the All-NBA Defensive Team six times.

“I was playing with a lot of emotions,” Davis said, per the Mavericks’ official website. “Obviously, I know this city has a lot of emotions right now and I’m just trying to do my job and change that emotion for good. Like I said in that press conference (on Friday), I’m letting Dallas fans know what they got in a player like me. Just a little friendly reminder of who Anthony Davis is.”

The Mavericks traded for Davis but lost Luka Doncic in the process. In his six-plus season with the Mavericks, Doncic was named Rookie of the Year in 2019, named to the All-NBA First Team five times and has been selected to the All-Star Team in the last five seasons.
